iOS10 WiFi Keeps forgetting hidden network

I am on iPhone 5S iOS version 10.0.1 on T-Mobile network. At my work place we have hidden wifi network. It was working fine. But after my upgrade to iOS 10, the phone keeps forgetting the hidden network every time it goes another wifi network (say at home). My other colleagues who has iPhone 6 or 6s does not have any issues. Any help is appreciated.

An SSID which cannot be immediately seen by nearby users - ability to scan broadcasts from other devices notwithstanding as this isn't exactly commonplace - is inherently more secure than a visible one, albeit to a minor degree.

Besides, it's not for Apple to decide how I or my employer should be configuring our wifi networks. If my device suddenly cannot maintain a reliable wifi connection, it's bugged.

I agree it's bugged and they should get it fixed, but it's no more or less secure to have it hidden, anyone wanting to hack you will already knows the SSID and has probably been given the password or will just pick up the SSID from the broadcasts of nearby client devices.

I'm sure they are beavering away in the background but is there enough noise here to persuade Apple that they need to do it quickly, i doubt it, which means it might miss the 10.2 December release, that would be very annoying.

Dear brenden dv

For me it is not solved

Our compagny got 5 MDM platorms all over the world for 7 000 apple devices

Many of our MDM admins keeps pushing Wifi profile for devices with ios 10 and SIM card in

This summer we blocked ios 10 upgrade in order to see if all will be ok.

Unfortunately not because ios 10 devices (all models) lost wifi connexions with hidden ssid.

Our MDM partners told us that is was ios 10 problem and could not solved it.

How can i ask 3500 users with no sim card (only wifi connexion) to do Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings ?

This is not professionnal.

Every beta i hope to find a fix for hidden wifi

Here is the post from MDM KB portal

> If you are affected by this, please contact Apple and provide them the number of impacted devices you have so as to call greater attention to this issue.

So 150 devices impacted many are iphone 5/6/even 7 got the problem

Hope to read something soon

Best regards

Well glad to see that we are not alone on this. Before anyone starts we have already done all the usual reboot, rest network settings, restore, DFU restore and even so far as to purchase iPhone 7 plus (were due upgrade from 5S). One of our new 7+ is now connecting by the other is not and of course it would be my wife's. So now we have an overage from our carrier because she doesn't pay attention to if she is connected to Wifi.

I have reconfigured my home network to not be hidden and will see how that works out.

As of Nov 14, this issue is still ongoing. With the installation of iOS 10, my iPhone 5s started losing connection to the hidden wifi at work and at home. The problem was fixed by iOS 10.1 but it is back with 10.1.1. Whenever the iPhone 5s gets out of range of the hidden network, it will not find/connect to it the next time it is in range, forcing a manual re-connect.

Hi, my company has the same issues, a lot of 5/5s who are loosing the connection and are not able to reconnect to a hidden wlan network.

And it is anyoing that it is marked as solved when a lot of users are reporting errors.

To summarize it:

  • Affected modells are 5 and 5s (in my companies case)
  • Problem occurs after upgrading to Ios10
  • Deleting the Wlan-Profile and doing a network reset is not fixing the issue.
  • Affected are Ios 10.1, 10.0.1, 10.0.2, 10.1.1,
  • Resetting the whole phone is not solving the problem

At the moment we are removing the old network profile and re-connect the iphone but this is not a solution and i cant do this with 180 devices on a regular basis.

We have over 650 iPhone 5 devices in our organisation of which 240 have been upgraded to iOS 10.1.1

Since running the iOS update we are constantly receiving calls where the organisations hidden WiFi has dropped off.

Due to this we are seeing huge increases in cellular data usage as many of our end users are unaware their WiFi is no longer working.

As said in many posts above, re-adding the network only works whilst the device is in WiFi range - once it leaves and returns the profile is lost and has to be re-added. Resetting the device completely does not resolve the issue.

Sort it out Apple.
