Macbook Pro overheating because Mac OS Sierra

My Late 2014 MacBook pro 13 inch has been overheating since installing Sierra. At 10 minutes it is warmer than normal, at 20 minutes it is too hot to have on your lap. Opening and running a partition with el capitan does not cause overheating after an hour. Does anyone else have this problem? SMC Fan Control says it is running at 137 degrees fahrenheit.

I too have this issue, but when I looked into it further, I found that Photos is running a process in the background to sort my 70Gb database. It is one of the new options in Sierra to optimise the system - not sure what you found after running the activity monitor, but I had this:

photoanalysisd68.925:20.85

As you can see, it has been running for a long time - think I will give it a while longer and see what happens.

Note to self - do not rush into opening all the apps until I have checked the system out :-)

That's normally not hot, my 15" mid 2012 usually stays around that temp when doing graphic intensive things. have you tried resetting your pram (perimeter)ram. it's basically the memory stat stores temp settings like volume or screen brightness. after shutting your macbook down, you would hit the power button and then right after that, hold down option + command + R + P util it the screen flashes and then let it go once you hear the mac chime again.

Not sure from your description if this applies, but if your fan runs continuously (even after allowing time for indexing), check Activity Monitor, and see if "Secd" is using a high percentage of CPU. I haven't found anyone else with this issue, but me, but putting 2 and 2 together found the solution: turn on iCloud keychain. (Apple menu--preferences--icloud---check keychain). I had declined to set this up during Sierra installation, but my MacBook air really really wants me to turn this on. CPU usage instantly went to 3% from 97% and fan spun down. Posting this in hopes this obscure solution will show up in google searches
