Garmin communicator plug-in and Safari 10.0

So just upgraded to V10.0 of Safari. Went to connect my Garmin gps and download a new cache from geocaching.com but said needed new version of Garmin Communicator plug-in. Downloaded and installed it. It recognised my GPS but I couldn't send the new cache directly to my gps as I could just yesterday. When I check my mac directory I only see the Garmin communicator plug-in as a disk image. Any geocachers out there experiencing the same problem? Arlene

Hi Eric,

Not this did not work. Turns out that the level of security for Safari 10.0 is much higher. Now the plugin, which is an old version does not meet the high level of security that is needed. I can still use firefox if I want to download directly from geocaching.com or I can also download the GPX file and then import it into Basecamp and send it to my GPS this way. A little more time but being retired I have lots of it. I've sent garmin all this info and hope to hear back that they have a more secure plugin in the near future. Thanks for your help, though.

Garmin Communicator Plugin stopped working on my Mac too. Some time ago I had my OS updated to El Capitan 10.11.6 and Safari to 10.0. When I tried to start Communicator Plugin I got "Garmin Communicator Plugin NOT detected" message. I tried updating Plugin to the latest version but it did not help. I got the message of successful installation but I still have the installation package Install Communicator Plugin.pkg on my Mac. What should I do?

Hi Hessut, I've received at least 6 replies from various support members from Garmin with no solution. They mention that they are working on eliminating the plugin so they are not going to update it. I've found I could send caches directly to my gps through Firefox even after installing the latest version of the plugin. We haven't used Firefox as our regular browser for security reasons and that was the same problem when Safari was upgraded as the plugin did not meet Safari's security levels. Of course I can still download the GPX version of any cache, import it into Garmin's Basecamp, where I keep all my caches and waypoints and then export it to my connected GPS. Hope this helps. Will update as I receive more info on this problem. Arlene

Hello arlmar!

I hadn't installed Firefox to my Mac before but now I did it and installed Garmin Communicator as Firefox "additional part" (I don't know what the proper word in English is since my Firefox speaks Finnish). Now I can use Plugin again the same way I did before it stopped working with Safari. Saves me a few steps when transporting caches to my GPS... Problem solved but not with Safari.

Thanks fort your reply!

Hi arlmar!

I tried to spot you in Groundspeak but your nick is probably something else and the "new" search engine does not support looking for a fellow cacher as the previous did. First cache we (we are a couple) have hidden is GCH9X5. If you check that you can get to our profile and send us a message through Groundspeak. I would appreciate it! We are Finnish and based in Finland but have been geocaching in 5 continents and for 13 years...

Cheers!

I also have this problem with my Garmin eTrex 10. I contacted Garmin and was told problem is with geocaching.com in that geocaching.com has not updated their system to recognize the newest Safari update. I contacted geocaching.com and was told in an e-mail that "Safari no longer supports plug-ins." It was suggested to "select 'download gpx' and save to the appropriate folder on your gps devise." But when I went to a cache to do this the 'gpx' function will not work. Frustrated right now with geocache.com ignoring the simple solution to update their files for us. As for now I will keep using geocache app on my iPhone 5SE.
