Mail.app: S/Mime encrypted attachments are not working under MacOS Sierra

I left Outlook for Applemail. Have seriously considered going back to Microsoft Outlook. I mean this is a fundamental email facility how could they still not have resolved it!

Just an FYI - I have just installed the latest beta version of MacOS so I am running 10.12.2 Beta 4 and Mail 10.2 (3257) and I am now able to open attachments that were sent using an encrypted email. I am able to open new messages and old messages. Hopefully this fix carries over to the final release as well.

I just installed the general release version of 10.12.2. I still can't open an attachment in an S/MIME encrypted email. I tried both a previously sent email and a newly created one.

As before, dragging the email to the desktop, opening the email and then the attachment works.

As before, S/MIME encrypted email with an attachment opens fine in iOS.

p.s.....at least the workaround still does the job.

I am running the current Mac OS 10.12.2 and I am able to view documents that have been sent to me digitally signs and encrypted. We are using certificates from comodo, I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not, but it is working for me.

For what it's worth: Same issue for me and all of my 14 colleagues who are using MacOS Sierra and Apple Mail with S/MIME.

Mail as such works (more or less, they crappify the app a little more with each iteration) but attachments cannot be viewed, opened or saved.

The workaround to drag mail onto desktop, then open with Mail, then open attachments still works but is extremely annoying.

Back to the drawing board for Apple ...

A while back I filed a bug report which was closed as a duplicate of an earlier bug report. The earlier bug report is still opened. Perhaps this means that Apple knows that there is still an unresolved problem. I will report closure of the earlier bug report when and if that occurs.

I also filed a report a while back but did not receive the duplicate so maybe that was mine! I was just doing some more tests and I found this out.

If I send an attachment using an encrypted email from Mac Mail, I am able to open that attachment on other computers using Mac Mail or Outlook. BUT if I send an attachment using Outlook for Mac and it is encrypted, I am unable to open it using Mac Mail and it acts the same as it did before I upgraded to 10.12.2. I am going to update this in my bug report. I don't know if other people are seeing the same thing or not but I do know this is happening between 7 computers that I have setup using different names, etc.

Yay, macOS 10.12.4 made my day, attachments finally load in Mail even when message is encrypted! Thanks a lot Apple!
