iPhone7 Bluetooth issue in the car

My brand new Iphone7 seems to have bluetooth problems in my car. Everything works but the sound drops sometimes (often) when I listen to music. I didnt have this issue wiyh my 6s and IOS10. I tried to reset everything but the problem persists. The iPhone is recognized by the radio inmy Toyota, but the sound drops just as it was a radio in a tunnel.

I provided this to the techs weeks ago, but it seems like there was no headway. So here are the results of my trials for everyone to read:

I work in an environment where I have access to soundproof rooms. The walls are steel with padding and are about 6" thick (solid). These are "dead spots" for wireless in my building, which I surveyed and had to plan around because of the walls. I also work with deploying a lot of iOS devices, so most of my colleagues have an iPhone.

Testing environment:

I tested the area with an OptiView XG using AirMagnet Spectrum XT software. This device and software is used to measure the amount of Radio Frequency (RF) radiation in a given area to troubleshoot issues with wireless, and to help design wireless networks for large corporations. This helped me to ensure that there were no stray 2.4GHz interferers while testing, meaning that the only devices emitting 2.4GHz band RF were the "Devices" listed below (Beats Pill, Plantronics Backbeats, Braven BRV-1) and the phones.

Additionally, I tested the cars listed below in several environments with and without interferers nearby. These were less controlled, however mirrored the exact same results.

Stuttering/Skipping:

To show an example of the skipping sound that I am referring to, please take a look at this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGHFDRVA958

Bluetooth devices tested:

  • Cars: 2013 Ford Focus, 2011 Toyota Venza, 2007 BMW 335i, 2006 VW Jetta
  • Devices: Beats Pill, Plantronics Backbeats, Braven BRV-1

iPhones tested:

  • iPhone 6s - No problems
  • iPhone 6s Plus - No problems
  • iPhone 7 Plus (AT&T, A1784) - Stuttering
  • iPhone 7 Plus (AT&T, A1784) - Stuttering
  • iPhone 7 Plus (AT&T, A1784) - Stuttering
  • iPhone 7 Plus (T-Mobile, A1784) - Stuttering
  • iPhone 7 Plus (Sprint, A1661) - No problems
  • iPhone 7 (Verizon, A1660) - No problems
  • iPhone 7 Plus (Verizon, A1661) - No problems
  • iPhone 7 Plus (Verizon, A1661) - No problems
  • There were two other GSM iPhone 7 Pluses that I trialed, but I don't have the model numbers in front of me to list to provide exact details. Both had issues.

As you can see, the issues are localized to the GSM models using the new Intel modems. This further solidifies the belief that there is an existing hardware issue and not a problem with software, interference, or other manufacturer's devices. I'm not sure what else I can do to troubleshoot with the Apple reps, but after spending upwards of $5000 with Apple in 2016, I can't help but to feel neglected.

YES - apple removed my last post outline how agrivated and frustrated I was citing "We removed your post iPhone7 Bluetooth issue in the car because it contained information about beta software available only to Registered Apple Developers. " Unreal. There was nothing in my post about the beta except that it did not work and only caused more issues. Something that is being reported by 50% of the posts in this thread. This also shows that Apple is reading these posts. I give up.

I agree, they honestly should have a known bugs, and road-map showing their top priorities... All I'm saying is that I'm sure they're working on bugs. Obviously they addressed the phone/call functionality problem with 10.0.3 to actually fix the "iPhone". They addressed the firmware bug with their supplied adapter and headphones previously which helped open some alternative for connectivity.

I'm not saying that this isn't an issue, I experience it. But expecting them to respond or acknowledge the problem (especially in a forum) is unlike Apple. It either gets fixed, or is escalated to a class-action lawsuit like the 'touch diseased iPhone 6 Plus'...

It's two new hardware Radios not found in the previous models. There's bound to be bugs. For all we know, they might be waiting for Intel and Qualcomm to assist with the firmware.

I thought so. This goes to the trust issues I am having with how Apple is dealing with us. I am not sure it really wants to address this issue or help us by recognizing our frustrations. I think with all things, trust is very important. I have filed a bug report but not sure if this is going to help. What I have decided is to limit further purchases from Apple until this gets resolved - not like it matters.

Does anyone think it could be a hardware issue?

I to above was on 10.1 from beta 1 to beta 5 and had problems with disconnect after shutting down car. So I said self call support. So I did and the tech said that this is definitely a bug in the beta software. So I said self whats to lose if I DFU back to latest build for phone . So I did. I'm now on 10.0.3 and I went to my Hyundai 2012 SantaFe deleted phone deleted car from phone the repaired it. I may be fooling myself but I shut down and restated my car 20 times and it connected all 20 times. I'll find out in AM if it forgets overnight. Will post updates as I go about tomorrow..

I got out this AM to do some running. Started car and it pair nicely and did not disconnect. I steamed music to the radio for over an hour and had no problems what so ever. No skips no jumps. I will let all know this that all my music is in the cloud (iCloud). No music stored on my phone but it all play perfectly. Also I noticed when I DFU'd back to 10.0.3 (14A551) that it's only for iPhone 7 others get 10.0.2. Stopped several time while driving and shutoff all reconnected no problem.
