Unable to unlock MacBook Pro with Apple watch

I don't see the in System Preferences ->Security & Privacy -> “Allow your Apple Watch to unlock your Mac.”

The screen is just as it was before Sierra.

I did all this last night before going to bed & tinkered with it a little this morning before work frustrated. Then at lunch today I got a notification on my Watch that it was now accessing my iCloud (as far as I can tell it always was... its certainly connected to my phone & was listed as one of my devices on the security page). So I tested it when I got home & the option to turn on my Mac with my watch was available in the Security & Privacy tab.

It now works fine.

My mac might be older than '13 but bluetooth is v 5... I am not able to pair the apple watch with my mac. I dont see it in system preferences. I am also not asked for my icloud password when I reboot my watch. Any help?

I think what you are looking at is the version of the "Apple Bluetooth Software". You want to look at the version of the Bluetooth hardware (the chip itself, which might be manufactured by Broadcom/Cypress, Intel, Qualcomm, etc). If you're looking in the "System Information", you should see "Bluetooth Low Energy Supported" and "Handoff Supported" (both saying "yes") - that's what you need to use this.

Dear Joseph,

I followed all the steps you suggested. Furthermore before to do so, I logged out from and re-logged in to iCloud on all my Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, Watch and both my macbook pro).

However it still doesn't work for me. When I wake up the mac, I notice that just before to ask me for the password, it doesn't show the password box (for half a secondo or maybe a second).

I am getting crazy (I am trying everything since 3 days). Do you have any other hint?

Thank you in advance

Note: I am using a macbook pro (2015) with Sierra, an iPhone 6 with iOS 10 and a watch (first edition) with watch OS 3.0.

I have a 13" 2016 MBP with Touch Bar connected to an Anker ethernet dongle. When the MBP is NOT connected to the dongle, unlocking the MBP with an Apple Watch works as advertised (providing all the setup tasks have been completed properly).

However, when the MBP is connected to the ethernet dongle (via USB-C), unlocking fails. The display says "Unlocking with Apple Watch..." and then prompts for the password. Feels like a bug somewhere...

For those struggling with Apple Watch unlocking their MBP, suggest you disconnect everything from the computer in the process of troubleshooting. Hope this helps.
