Buying songs from other countries listed in the iTunes Stores

I am trying to buy songs from the Japanese iTunes stores and it appears to me, as a Canadian I cannot buy anything outside of...North America?? Possibly due to silly licensing issue or..?

Any feedback on that?
Thank you

Unless you can show some form of residency you cannot buy from another country's store. The question on cross store purchasing is asked frequently so I'll just quote the most complete answer (courtesy of Dave Sawyer) from the many given:

In order to buy from any given country's iTunes Music Store, you must have either:

a) a credit card with a billing address in that country, or

b) a mailing address in that country and a gift certificate or a prepaid card that was bought in that country.

If you cannot fulfill one of these two sets of conditions, you will not be able to purchase from any given country's iTMS.

.......this is due to restrictions placed on Apple by the record companies and other rights holders (who are often completely different from country to country and so all require their own individual negotiations and contracts), not by Apple's choice. And this also applies to all the legal download stores that carry major-label content, not just the iTMS.

What about TV Shows? Not a single show available for the Canadian store yet almost every American network is available up here. i.e. I received The Office season 2 DVD for Xmas yet can't download it from iTunes (not that I wanted to since I already have it on DVD, but I wanted to test it since Season 3 was unaccessible as well)

Can anyone explain this? Will it be available on the Canadian store anytime soon?

It's mind-boggling...

Apple should be able to sell foreign iTunes cards in the US, as there is a considerable amount of music available in the Australian and especially the UK iTunes stores that is NOT available on US iTunes, and considering the similar laws in force in all those countries it should not be a problem. Who is being hurt by someone in the US buying music from UK or Aussie iTunes, as the labels still get royalties?

I discovered the overseas iTunes Stores this evening. Being a Greek-Australian I was very excited at the prospect of being able to download music from Greece.

My excitement came from the fact that I returned from a holiday in Greece in early November and having looked at the Greek iTunes Store, realised that my favourite Greek artist is presently at the top of the charts in Greece.

I rushed to sign up only to discover that I can not purchase from the Greek iTunes Store. I came on here to do some research and I am now very disappointed.

For me, the Australian iTunes Store is a complete waste of time. In my opinion, it should be all or nothing. Provide the service of allowing customers to purchase music from all over the world or simply restrict them to the store of their country of origin.

As i said i'd be happy to pay (reasonable) aditional costs.[/b
Then you should contact the artists/labels/comyright owners and let them know.
Apple can ONLY sell them where the copyright owners let them.
As to customs I regularly order DVD's from out of country, never had one stopped by customs.
Doesn't mean they can't.

Hello to everyone, I am brand new to Itunes, I am doing this for my younger daughter. On the question of buying in other countries, I have a unique situation. I am a US resisdent with US bank accounts. I am working for the US Army overseas in Belgium and have belgian bank accounts also. So I have a US address (APO) through the military and a local Belgian residence also.
My daughters were both born in Belgium and have dual nationalities (US & Belg). So being in this situation, will I be able to purchase from the US also?? I know I can buy in Belgium due top my email address when I signed up today. I was told I could only use the Belgian store.
Appreciate any outlook on this. I was not able to find a contact point for apple on the web site.

You purchase based on from which country you have your credit card and where it's billing address is. If you have a credit card issued by a US bank and it has a billing address in the US, then should be able to use that card to open an account in the US iTunes Store. If you only have a Belgian credit card, then the Belgian store is the only one you'll be able to use.

I recieved a gift card from my sister-in-law who lives in Canada and I live in the U.S. She had no idea that she had to create a new user for the U.S. and then buy a gift card for me using that user.

So, now I can't redeem my Canadian gift cards or set up an account there to redeem them because I don't live there.

How do I redeem my Canadian gift cards in the U.S.? Can I exchange them at a retail store?
