storage still calculating?
MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS Sierra (10.12)
I had booted into Recovery mode ( Command and R) on restart, it goes into the recovery screen, select disk utility, and then perform a scan on your default Disk( in most cases Macintosh HD) and perform a scan. After that I rebooted, and logged in n normally- reran the storage check you are having trouble with, and it finished in about 2 minutes. Hope that helps😉
I checked today and it's not calculating anymore. It resolved itself out, somehow!
I'm sorry for my english. I'm from Poland. The sierra is serious software error. At el capitan system save after 4 gigabytes per day, and now you can save 50 gigabytes of data. This shortens the lifespan of an SSD. Every day Sierra stores 50 gigabytes of data ... It is a very serious mistake system that will quickly consume ssd drives. update_dyld_shared_cache process save a lot of data on hard drive...
for me it was an extra file (iTunes Extras (v2.0).ite) in the movie folder in itunes.
I deleted it and now everything is fine
How long is long? Minutes? Hours? Days? Weeks?
How did you discover it was that file?
Your hard drive is only 500 Gig? And you've only used 110 Gig?!! What are you doing with your life? Nothing it seems.
Same issue here with a MacBook Pro 😟
I updated to macOS 10.12.1 and it's no longer calculating for me. I checked before update and it was, so the .1 release fixed my issue.
update to 10.12.1 didn't fix it for me. I'm using macbook pro 15 inch mid 2015
I have the same issue!
Strangely enough this worked for me as well but I did also do a Spotlight reindex. So the combination of these two, or one or the other worked. 1TB Fusion drive about half full, was stuck on calculating for 72 hours plus. Deleted these files (I do not need Garage Band) and within an hour it was fixed.
Both the storage finished calculating and the "System" stopped spinning.
I disabled iCloud Drive file optimization and it works now
I had the same issue (calculating in the storage tab and the spinning wheel thing) with my MacBook 12" macOS sierra 10.12.1, after I uninstalled GarageBand on the regular way.
So I searched for the folders mentioned by ShimonLeb. All the folders still existed depsite I uninstalled the program.
I deleted all folders manually- with no result. After that, I restored all folders. Then I deleted the first one and opened the Storage tab in "About my Mac" and klicked on manage. Now everything was ok expect a GarageBand entry in the manage menu. Then I closed it and repeated the process (delete the next folder, open the Storage Tab etc.) until all remaining folder wer deleted. Now everything works just fine, without rebuilding the Spotlight Index.
I need help! I have the same problem!
