I got my iPhone 7 Plus yesterday and I am running iOS 10.0.1.
When I am in my messages and I am trying to search in the search bar on top for a conversation I have with someone, it does not show any search results!
I tried rebooting the phone and even tried hard resets and it didn't help.
My wife has the iPhone 7 and her search function works just fine.
If anyone else has this issue and has a fix, I'd love to hear it.

I have had this issue when I switched from iPhone 6sPlus to 7Plus and now the issue repeated itself when I switched from 7Plus to iPhone X.
I can’t search messages restored from backup. This same issue happened on my daughters phone.
I was able to solve it and want to share it.
1. Go to settings, then Siri & Search, then toggle off suggestions in look up and suggestions in search. Turn the phone off by holding the wake button and volume up button and then slide to off. Wait at least 2 minutes before turning the phone on.
2. After the phone is on go back to settings, then Siri & Search and turn the suggestion in look up and suggestion in search back on.
3. While still in Siri & Search scroll down to Messages. Click on it and turn Suggestion in Siri & Search to off.
4. Power down the phone and wait at least 2 minutes.
5. Turn the phone back on and open the messages app. Try to search for an old message. It will not work yet.
6. Go back to settings, then Siri & Search and scroll down to messages. Turn the Suggestions in Siri & Search for messages back on
7. Go back to messages app and try to search for old messages - it should work now.
Hope this helps some people as this has been an annoying issue for me.
I don't think that it will work. I also tried restoring the phone with no success.
This is different than a restore, try it and report back please.
You are asking me to try it. Did you do it? Did it work for you? Are you in the 7Plus? Are you able to search they messages that were sent or delivered prior to the upgrade to the new phone?
I wouldn't bother wasting everyone's time if I didn't believe this would solve your problem. This fix literally takes 1 minute and ive given you a solution. Instead of choosing to solve your problem you'd rather argue/complain about it.
I am not arguing. I appreciate you trying to help. However, resetting all settings is rather invasive. It would require restoring all wifi connections, Bluetooth connections, etc. additionally, I tried it on my wife's phone (she has fewer connections to reset) and it did not fix it. That is why I asked you whether you are on 7Plus (it seems to be limited to 7Plus only), whether you were able to search thru messages that were sent/delivered prior to upgrading to new phone(as you can search thru messages that were sent/received post upgrade)
You tried it today and are still unable to utilize the search function at all for messages?
I never said that I can't utilize message search function at all. I said that I am not able to search thru messages that were sent or received prior to upgrading to 7Plus. Additionally, I tested it on my 7Plus, my wife's 7Plus, my daughter's 7Plus, and a few of my friends. And the results are identical. I'm not sure that you understood what the problem is and you did not tell us if you are on 7Plus.
I was hoping you could tell me if you are using iPhone 7Plus and were faced with the same issue and reset all settings solved it for you. I have this escalated to engineering and it would be helpful if I could tell them that reset all settings helped others.

Are you personally using 7Plus. Did the reset all settings allow you to search they messages that were sent/received prior to the upgrade to the new phone?
Did you try the all settings reset as was recommended by another person in his thread?
Just updated to the new build of 10.1.1 and the issue still persists. Curious if anyone was able to resolve it and/or seeing different results.
I'm very annoyed with your recommendation. I have updated to latest build of 10.1.1 and said what the heck let me reset all settings. Well now I have to connect to all the networks, Bluetooth devices all over again. And most of all it DIS NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. common curtesy is to offer suggestions that you know work. You could not even bring yourself to say that you do not have this same issue and have never tried the fix you suggested.
I have tried to fix the search issue in messages. After I restored my phone from an iTunes backup and found that nothing was searchable prior to the restore. I went ahead and backed up my iphone to iCloud and then reset it as new and then restored the iCloud backup. This resolved my issue.
I then tired to resolve this on my wife's iPhone 7Plus and in a similar fashion backed it up to iCloud and then reset as new and then restored the iCloud backup. This did not resolve an issue with her device. I was able to search for some of the messages but not all, it was almost random. I decided to restore from iTunes again, however, now she can't search thru any messages sent or received prior to the restore.
I think I am onto something. It appears that the iCloud and iTunes handle backups differently. I may have forgotten a step that I took on my iPhone 7Plus and that is why it did not help my wife's phone.
Would appreciate it if someone could think of how to proceed.
