iPhone 7 GPS constantly changing in Maps

Is anyone having issues with GPS on the iPhone 7? In Maps, my "location" (i.e., blue dot) is jumping all around my current location. It doesn't seem to be getting a lock on my actual GPS location. I have noticed that it also affects other apps that use GPS.

I was contacted yesterday by Apple engineer via phone call (this is a big deal, as I live in Ukraine and he was calling from US), they saw the message in this thread - that is the only place I talked about it.

They are looking into the issue. I was given instructions to install service profile, activate system diagnose mode and reproduce the issue. Then they called me again to get the logs from device - I've uploaded them along with the videos. So Apple is definetely knows about this. But they couldn't told me was that a SW or HW issue. We should expect either a software update or some sort of device recall pretty soon, i guess. Anyway, I'll try to replace my unit in few weeks as I will visit Europe (thats where I bought the phone).

I'm also seeing this. Jet black iPhone 7 128G. My iPhone 6 was perfect for its whole life and I used Strava several times a week to track my running. First run with the iPhone 7 showed increased distance by about 10% and pace to match. The path was all jagged. Looking in Maps.app I also see the dot moving around.

I opened a case with Apple and it is ongoing...

Glad I'm not the only one!

Same problem with my iPhone 7 32GB, In the UK on the EE network. iOS 10.1.1

While driving, the blue dot bounces all over the place. When I'm stood still, it's as though GPS does not work at all and instead relies on Cell tower information to guess where I am. This refreshes every 5-10 seconds and changes location constantly. However while driving, the iPhone might as well stick its finger up in the air and guess where it's going according to the wind! It can be out by 2 miles to 500 yards. navigation is pointless. My wife does not have this problem on her 6S.

I've factory reset, set as new iPhone - same experience with Google and Apple Maps. Called Apple who said visit a Genius Bar, but from the looks of it, sounds more like a software bug.

this did not happen when I was on iOS 10 when I bought it on release day.

Hi All,

So I took my iPhone 7 to the Apple Shop Genius Bar. Person had a look, ran diagnostics test - everything ok. Factroy defaulted, same issue.

They swapped out the iPhone for a brand new one. New device was running v10.0.2 and didn't have the issue.

Took it home, updated to v10.1.1 - problem no longer exists :-)

I guess it was down to a faulty antenna or similar.

I found the answer about the issue on my iPhone 7 with weak and unreliable GPS!!! It was because the iPhone "Case"!

I was testing/driving/walking using the iPhone for a week and it was still having bad GPS status. I was also almost giving up. I think I would report to Apple support some days after I have tested thoroughly. Somehow, I just wanted to change the iPhone 7 case with the simple, plastic shell. (The problem one has some kind of aluminium, metal-like coating on the case to make it illuminated) Once case changed, I still tested it via car driving, and I was amazed that somehow Google maps/Apple map performance were so much improved and accurate... I wonder.....hmmm... oh geezzz, I changed the case!!... Of course, I wanna prove the assumption then, I switched back the case, and bingo! BAD GPS!!!

Turn out, all the bad GPS signal issue is from the iPhone case that made with some metal coating, or aluminium, chromium coating... So folks, just a simple & easy check if this also applies to your phone!, I also do not know if this unique case (but stupid) could have happened to you!

I've spoken with a Senior tech at Apple and there is in fact an internally-tracked issue entitled “iPhone 7 GPS is inaccurate” and they are collecting data to try and narrow down the problem. If you have this issue, do call them and explain the situation. They don't have a work around currently but they have committed to returning my call as one of the affected users.

Seems this is at least somewhat acknowledged and they are on top of it.

For now I will be keeping my iPhone 6 around to do my running (using Strava) until the issue with the 7 is sorted out.

I Just received my phone from the apple service, they said they just reset the phone. When I got home and charge the phone, really dissapointed, still the same problem. Waited more than a week with the same issue. Going back tomorrow. Wish apple acknowledge this issue and tell us if it is a software or hardware issue. If it is a software one, then I can wait instead of going back there and wait another week.

They are aware of it. See my post above. There is an internal issue tracker that is collecting information about this problem but they do not have a solution yet. Call them and ask them to look for the internal document, "iPhone 7 GPS is inaccurate". If the tech can't find it, ask to speak with a Senior tech - mine was super helpful.
