iPhone 7 GPS constantly changing in Maps

Is anyone having issues with GPS on the iPhone 7? In Maps, my "location" (i.e., blue dot) is jumping all around my current location. It doesn't seem to be getting a lock on my actual GPS location. I have noticed that it also affects other apps that use GPS.

So I got my third iPhone 7 yesterday, and the problem persists. Strava, Runkeeper and iSmoothrun are all unusable for tracking runs with iPhone 7. It looks slightly better when walking with Apple Maps, but with my iPhone 6 in the left hand and iPhone 7 in the right hand, I can see how the location moves much more smoothly on the iPhone 6, it stops, lags and then jumps on the iPhone 7.

Apple service center replaced my phone with a new one. One hour so far looks like it's ok now. Maps blue circle seems stable in my location. Google map and here maps looks like they are working fine now. The software is 10.0.1, I'm afraid if I update the problem will happen again. I'll update after sometime, but for now looks like the problem is solved. If in case the problem returns I'll message again.

I tried a little experiment with my new phone. I did not update the phone immediately. Using 10.0.1, I used google map and here maps. It worked very well. Google map was routing and rerouting perfectly. Here maps was able to find and route me too. The blue dot is not moving around in maps and it is steady in my location. In short, it worked as it should.

Then I updated to 10.1.1. Here I noticed that the gps is acting strange again. Not as worst as before, which is jumping from my location to a far away place. Now it's slightly moving, slowly, around my location. Also, the blue circle goes big then small more often. Here maps when I try it goes to "looking for gps" again, but wait a little while and it will be able to go find a gps.

My conclusion, I think it's a software bug. I got a new phone but upgrading to the latest OS shows signs of the previous problem. I hope it does not go as worst as before. But the signs are there. Hope apple has an update soon to solve this.

I think there are two separate issues:

(1) iPhone 7 seems to have a lousy GPS chip or possibly (hopefully) just a not so good driver software for it

(2) 10.1 does something to how iOS combines GPS and Wifi location. This also applies to my iPhone 6: Before upgrading iOS, it would always lock my position when at work (and indoors, with weak GPS reception). Now the position moves around almost continuously. To me, it looks like it pays less attention to Wifi-based location than it did before.

My issue just started over the weekend. I've had my 7+ since launch day and have updated iOS within 24-48 hours of every release. I use GPS (Waze) every day. Friday it worked fine and Saturday it started jumping around. It took me a while to figure out exactly what it was doing but was able to see it better using Google Maps or Apple Maps. It will show my (fairly) accurate current location for a few seconds and then it jumps to another location that could be 1/2 a mile to 5 miles away, then it returns.

I did all the usual basic troubleshooting, turning location off then on, turning on airplane mode and turning it off, hard reset, resetting network settings... The only thing I haven't tried was a complete factory reset. I do have an appointment for Tuesday at my local Apple Store. I may try the reset this afternoon. It doesn't seem to matter

My guess is that it's a hardware issue.

Same for me. iPhone 7, 256 GB, iOS 10.1.1. I'm from Germany and I go with T-Mobile here. Issue is unreliable and "restless" GPS. Compared to my iPhone 6, which I still have, a 4 km hiking trail is 5.5 kilometers with the iPhone 7 (checked with other GPS, it is really just 4 kilometers 🙂). The displayed trail on ip7 is very "curvy". I had both phones with when I tested. No cover or bumper.

With Here or Navigon I'm jumping to nearby parallel streets or see my blue pointer on the other side of the crossroad while waiting for the green light 🙂 or better 😟

I tried

- reset network settings

- hard reset

- complete clean install

Still the same issue. Next try is sending it back ... I have no glue if this is a software or a hardware problem, but I would expect something more ... reliability.
