Could not connect to apple tv from MacOS Sierra

Hi,

I upgraded my Macbook Pro (Retina Mid 2012) to MacOS Sierra. When I'm trying to connect to apple tv by clicking on AirPlay icon and click on my Apple TV it asks me to insert a passcode!!! The Apple TV shows a passcode and I use it but it gives me this error :

Could not connect to "Apple TV"

I upgraded my Apple TV to the latest tvOS (10.0). And it gives me the same error.

I tried to turn on passcode and password on Apple TV from AirPlay Setting but same error. Turned it off, same error.

Please help.

Thanks,

Hooman

Same problem.

I cannot mirror my laptop via airplay. I have Sierra 10.12.2 on a brand new 15" 2016 MBP. My 4th Gen Apple TV is also up to date. Multiple reboots of both to no avail.

Incredibly frustrating.

EDIT:

I tried with "Require Device Verification" on the ATV both On & Off. Security is set to "none".

In either case, when I try to connect with airplay the Apple TV displays the 4 digit verification code on the TV and entering that code results in the "Could not connect" error on the Mac.

Paul,

Were you ever able to find the keychain item related to this? I've determined in my corporate environment that this is the issue that is happening on my customer's computer.

It is happening on macOS Sierra clients, trying to connect to an AppleTV Gen 4, running the latest tvOS. Other AppleTVs in our environment do not have this issue.

Creating a new test user fixed it on that user. Refreshing preferences on the old user didn't fix it, but changing the keychain folder to "KeychainOld," rebooting, and having the system make a fresh keychain also fixed it.

As in your case, deleting the keychain is not an option. We'd love to figure this out!

Thanks!

I was having similar issue prior to updating to Sierra with macbook air only mirroring audio and not video. ATV mirroring was working fine from Iphone 6, and an older ipad. I Hoped updating the macbook air to MacOS Sierra would correct the problem. It Didn't. I had updated, restarted, and reset ATV but didn't help. Firewall and other settings on macbook air were fine. Finally I unplugged the modem, router, ATV all at the same time for a couple of minutes, plugged them back in and now video is mirroring fine. I think it was the modem since I had tried unplugging the router (airport extreme) previously but maybe it was letting them all start up fresh at the same time that made the difference.

1 Month in still nothing works. With all the suggestions that have been made, and believe me I have tried them all, nothing solves this issue.

My issue: MacBook won’t connect to Apple TV. Tells me to enter code every time I want to connect. Every time it says its unable to connect to Apple TV.

My hardware:

MacBook Pro 13"Version:macOS 10.12.3 Apple TV 4 Version:tvOS 10.1.1

What I have tried:

-Signing out then back in iTunes. This I tried a handful of times, lost count. Seems like a simple solution and tried it on my MacBook and Apple TV. It didn’t work.

-Hard reset of MacBook Pro. After researching the problem further, I found this suggestion a lot. Powering down and holding down a segment of keys. I followed the instructions closely and it worked just like it was supposed to but it had no effect with Airplay.

-Factory reset of Apple TV. I tried this option several times, a lot with signing out of iTunes on my MacBook. Even after receiving an update for the Apple TV it didn’t work. I was hoping that would solve it.

-Rebooting modem/router. I have both, at first I just turned off the router thinking it would solve it, then realizing it probably needed to come from the source the modem. I even unplugged the cable. No result.

-Disabling Firewall. I saw this suggestion a lot, I don’t think this is a very smart way to solve this issue, but I tried it all the same, didn’t work.

-Reinstalling macOS Sierra. I really didn’t want to do this, it’s a huge hassle and takes a while. But I at this point I’m willing to try whatever. Doing this a long with a factory reset of the Apple TV I thought for sure would solve the issue, but it did absolutely nothing. Same problem.

-Adding new user/creating one. I tried a family members ID and that didn’t help. I didn’t really want to create a new ID but I tried anyway. Neither one worked. Now I just want to delete the account.

-Keychain. I don’t really understand how Keychain is tied to Airplay, but I tried everything that was suggested. At first deleting the items in the keychain folder User/Library/Keychain. I dragged it to my desktop then deleted it. No result. I also deleted the Keychain through my iCloud. This was huge mistake, I am now having to reset a lot of passwords because I can’t remember them. It seems to me that Keychain only causes problems rather than help the user, I have been having issues with Keychain for a long time. But that a subject for another day.

-Contacting Apple Customer Service. I thought for sure they would be able to help me with this, but the only wanted me to go through things I had already tried. I even spoke to a “Apple TV expert”. After an hour of talking he couldn’t help me.

I don’t know guys, I’m just really frustrated with this whole issue. This is an isolated issue, I have 3 Apple TV’s it will connect to my other 2, but this one will not connect. It’s taken a lot of my time just trying to figure this out and it’s gotten me nowhere. I’m open to suggestions, but at this point I’m thinking it must be a hardware issue. Any thoughts?

This is very SAD!!!

I too have the same issue on my iMac

It can connect to 2 of my other Apple TVs (Gen 3) but it cannot connect to my ATV4 yet the same computer under a different user profile, no issues... needless to say all other iOS devices in my household airplay just fine to this APTV so it is clearly an issue with the profile...

I tried the keychain removal process and it may no difference...

Hopefully somebody smarter than Apple can figure this one out.

I have this problem as well, and what worked for me was to deactivate the Apple ID two-factor authentification.

I could finally connect to my itunes store on my apple TV 2 to access my movies and tv shows, but I still can't access the apple TV from any of my Mac on Sierra or Iphone 6 with latest iOs. Airplay is not possible between either Sierra OS or latest iOs. Such a shame.

Hi,

Just had this problem and tried many things. My iPhone streamed to the Apple TV perfectly, but my MacBook Air (2012) after updating to MacOS Sierra (from scratch) fully rejected to stream.

The problem was in the FIREWALL

Tried to switch it of and started working.

Spend more than 2 hour, was really frustrated with Sierra (lost 3 Word docs after the upgrade by simple Word "application is not responding") and even thought to get back to Maverics.

Now thinking about getting back to Windows (as I used to do 6 years ago 🙂)

Good luck with this.

Regards.
