macOS Sierra can't detect 2560 x 1440 monitor resolution correctly

I have just updated my MacBook Pro(Retina, Mid 2012) to macOS Sierra. I'm excited about the new features. However, I found that the resolution of my external BenQ GW2765 monitor is not detected correctly by macOS. BenQ GW2765 is a 2560 x 1440 capable monitor. I configured its resolution as 2560 x 1440 in EI Capitan but can't do it in macOS Sierra anymore. Does anyone have the same issue as I do? Is this a bug in macOS Sierra?

Still having the same issue with 10.12.1.

I am using a MBP non retina mid 2012 and an ASUS PB278 1440p monitor. Tried SMC and PRAM reset, cannot get it to work. Max resolution is 1080.

If your monitor has display port you can try using a mini-display port (thunder bolt) to display port cable.

I had the exact same problem with an HDMI cable but was able to get 2560x1440 resolution using display port.

I have the mini-dp-to-dp cable and while the resolution works, I have horizontal lines randomly flickering on my screen. My hardward works fine booted to Windows10.

What kind of cable are you using? I found that HDMI only reads 1080p, while mini-display port will read at 1440p. The problem i run into there is there are random horizontal lines.
