Why cannot a apple watch connect with Mac book pro ( mid 2012 ) having the same hardware capabilities as post 2013 models ?

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), macOS Sierra (10.12)

If you mean with respect to that an Apple Watch unlocking a Mac, Apple has not said why.

Yes, Apple watch cannot unlock mac books which are manufactured earlier than 2013, though it has the hardware capabilities !
