How does one pair an Apple Watch with a Mac Mini or a MacBook Air to allow auto unlock with the watch?

Apple Watch cannot be paired to a Mac Mini or MacBook Air.
To set up and use Apple Watch requires iPhone 5 or later running the latest version of iOS:

Once the watch has been set up in conjunction with your iPhone, one of the available features under macOS Sierra and watchOS 3 is to bypass the process of manually entering a password on your Mac (mid-2013 and later) when waking it from sleep.
