Samsung Portable SSD T1 support

After upgrading to Sierra, the OS doesn't recognize my existing Samsung Portable SSD T1 (MU-PS1T0B) connected via USB 3. If I unplug, then replug the USB cable, OS will detect the initial folder, but nothing happens when I click on the Samsung Portable SSD.app

When I go to the Samsung website, the activation software avarunning Samsung Portable SSD.app (which is still at 1.0 version) will only spin nonestop without display the normal login screen.

Any suggestions? Anyone else with similar problems?

I got same problem. Rebooted in windows - worked fine there. Back in mac - nothing.
Downloaded T1 starter from samsung - nothing.

Downloaded T3 starter from samssung, it updated my drivers and my T1 now works again.

Here is the link http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/download/portable.html

Choose "t3 activation software" and choose "mac".

Good luck!

So I am having all the issues described, but the solution has not worked for me.

Had a Samsung SSD T1 500Gb using the encryption software on it

Installed Mac OS Sierra

No longer working as usual

Previously encryption software wound boot up - you login in, then you use the drive as normal

Now drive is 'recognised', but it looks like a 'completely new' drive

Tried installing the new T3 software from both a brand new Samsung T3 SSD 500Gb drive as well as the Samsung website.

This appears to have worked for other people in forum, but for me the new T3 Software Crashes unexpectedlyUser uploaded file

I am running a Mac Book Air

Grateful if anyone works this out

My late 2015 iMac running Sierra is having the exact same issue.

I tried the T1 and the T3 activation software - T1 won't work, T3 does the same crash when trying to install the app.

Samsung support is hopeless -- they say a "small" number of people have this problem and they don't know when

"or if" they will update their software -- WOW, thanks for nothing.

Surprisingly, the T1 will work on my 2013 Macbook pro (running Sierra) once I do the T3 activator software fix. I've already sent Samsung my crash data on install - why wouldn't they just put out a software update? Are all their people still working on the Note 7 design fix so no one is available to fix this issue.

I had the same problem with a samsung SSD T1 which work well before sierra. I connect the SSD T1 and nothing happened. I didn't ask for the password and it was impossible to access the drive.

I find a solution by installing the samsung SSD T3 driver which can be found on samsung website. During the installation he find a "old" data driver and ask to update it (I did). A computer restart is requested. After the reboot, i connected my SSD T1 and he asks me the password. Now It work fine.

I did the same operation on my macbook pro (2105) and on my mac mini (2012)

I had this exact same issue and it was driving me CRAZY. I got the T1 in April because it was on sale on Amazon. Seemed like a great deal, and when I was running El Capitan, it worked pretty well. So, I began using it to store some large files, i.e. photos from the last 10-15 years, all of my undergrad and grad school work, etc. Naturally, I wanted that information encrypted. I decided to use the built-in software, and set a password. However, when I upgraded to macOS Sierra this fall, I tried to access it again, and it kept giving me the Loading screen for two seconds, and then disappearing without showing any of my files. I scoured the internet, looking for some help. None of the suggestions people gave were working. I finally figured I'd do what I always hate to do, but hooked up the SSD to a Windows 7 machine at work. Sure enough, I installed the activation software on the SSD, and then was able to unlock the SSD with my password I had set in April, and permanently disabled the encryption password.

So, moral of the story is Samsung isn't probably ever going to update their software for macOS Sierra. If you can access a Windows PC, hook up your SSD, install the activation software, decrypt the SSD, move on with your life, and never buy another Samsung product ever again.

Yeah, I will never buy from Samsung again. They have even said that it is a known problem, and they refuse to update their software. How lame is that 😟 I was able to get to my files through a macbook pro - but there is no longer any encryption capability for the drive. Which is why I bought it in the first place. And Samsung support said since it works on "some" machines, it's not their issue - seriously, thank's for the "no customer service" !!!

God the ignorance here. The problem is updating to Sierra, not the T1 or the software. To fix it all you have to do is download and install the T3 software for Mac, once you do so, when you run it, it will prompt you to update a SAT driver. After doing that, when you run the T3 software it installed, it will start prompting you to enter the password on the T1.

Now, some (with people coming into my shop, i'd say about 5-10%) people are getting errors when they try to run the T3 software, some kind of string error, that means something is corrupt in the OS. Wiping it and reinstalling Sierra clean fixes the issue. It has worked for every customer i've had that had this second issue after trying the first fix. Apple is at fault for messing everything up like they always do every freaking new OSX (or MacOS as they want to call it now) version.

Ignorance - really, that's your professional opinion - you just had to go there - how sad.

People come to the support communities for help on problems that they cannot find solutions to anywhere else.

Let's summarize here. Yes, Apple updated their OS to Sierra, and yes, as always Apple and Microsoft have issues with their operating system updates. Also, MOST companies will provide updated software to work with the new operating systems.

I'm currently running a MacBook Pro, a new high end iMac and a new Dell XPS high end running windows 10 Pro. Each system had the problem when their respective operating systems were updated. The MacBook Pro started working when I ran the T3 activation software. The XPS started working when I reloaded the T1 activation software and rebooted. The iMac would crash while trying to run the T1 or T3 activation software, hence would not work at all.

So responding to your "helpful ignorant reply" - when you say "some people" - Apple sells 5 million iMacs a quarter - so that means "ONLY" 2 million people in the last year would have this issue (for the most recent iMacs) Gee, that's too bad for them - and me 😟

So AFTER reading everyone's sad stories on the internet AND trying numerous solutions, I finally broke down and did yet another clean install of Sierra on my iMac (i7 Retina display 27" 32GB RAM, 4GB graphics card and 1 TB internal storage) - to fix the problem with only this ONE DEVICE that doesn't seem to work properly.

And guess what - IT STILL WON'T WORK !!!!!!!!!!! Exact same results !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally, I contacted Samsung support ( only took 40 minutes of wait time). We went through the entire process and I explained in detail the steps that I took. Fortunately, the person elevated me to the next tech level. This person "immediately" told me that this was a "KNOWN ISSUE WITH SOME MACS". He also stated that he was not sure if Samsung would update their software drivers to "FIX" the problem. Almost every other company updates their software for both Apple and Microsoft so that a product that is less than 2 years old, will work with the newer operating systems. But not Samsung.

If Samsung refuses to update their software for a known issue, yeah, you may call me ignorant all you want, but I still refuse to purchase anything from them again.

I've tried installing the T3 software for Macs on several Macs, including one with a clean install of macOS Sierra, and it still would crash on startup.

Apple seeds developer betas at least three months ahead of their expected release to the public. This should give the developers, in this case, Samsung, an adequate amount of time to update their software to work with the updated OS, especially given that there are millions of people who have the updated OS, while there's only a fraction of the people who have the Samsung T1 Portable SSD.

Was my new comment deleted? I don't understand how it "contained either product feedback or feature requests that was not constructive" ? I'll try rewording it?

Anyways, Nathan, Apple does whatever they want and don't tell anyone and they don't play nice with 3rd parties, even though, funnily enough, Samsung makes alot of the parts they use. When Yosemite was in Beta, Trim enabling programs worked with no issue, when Yosemite officially released, Trim enablers no longer worked because they introduced Kext signing and didn't tell anyone.

SoCal, I called them too, they said they are aware of the issue, but they're not sure if its something being caused by the software or the drive because they are unable to reproduce it, even after looking through the error dumps that people have sent them. Lastly, there was an Amazon review where someone was complaining about issue after the T3 software would crash. It looked like one of the first complaints about the issue based on the date. He found out the missing string error he was having was being caused by custom Fonts he had installed. So who knows what is actually causing this issue.
