iOS 10 Black Screen Spinning Wheel

I had this same problem with my phone but in talking with someone at Apple they said to hold down the power and home button; this will force shut down the phone and then you can simply turn it back on. I haven't had any issues and didn't lose and content on the device...hope this helps!

I have the exact same issue happening on my iPhone 6s Plus. Screen goes black, pinwheel comes up and then I'm asked to enter my pin and then my phone goes back to the home screen. I was running a developer beta (can't remember which one, they happen every week) up until a week ago when I did a clean install of 10.2. I did the clean install because my battery was draining REALLY fast (losing 25% reading for 30-45 min 1st thing in the morning). Battery issue is a little better, but now I get this black screen, pin wheel, log back in issue at least a few times an hour. It's annoying. Looks like I'll have to go back to the developer beta.

This happens on pretty much a daily basis for me.

The only solution I've found is to hold both the POWER and HOME buttons at the same time, until the Apple logo comes back on screen.

I am having this issue with my Iphone 6Plus. Apple replaced with a new phone as they could not find an issue and the problem persists. I did use icloud backup and they are claiming that the issue is with back up. After seeing this post It looks like lot of folks have this issue. is this issue with Iphone6plus in general or issues with IOS10 or an issue with an App or something else. What is the resolution ?

I'm using 10.1.1 on iPhone 6s. I get identical issues with the black screen spinning wheel, followed by the manual unlock prompt - periodically, through the day.

i would not belive that i have been having the same problem on all my devices i have restored them set them up as new and it still happens all the time if it was a problem with a backup i would of cured it setting up as new hope that helps

i was thinking that maybe my backup is corrupt... i've had this issue on my 6S PLUS; had to get it exchanged twice,,, the dumb apple store employee told me that i need to put my iphone in recovery mode, because apparently its the "home board" that keeps crashing; its the software that's responsible for loading the lock screen; anyways i did that & the issue came back... i ended up swapping out for a new phone & this morning i noticed that the new phone it is still crashing .... :@:@:@:@ i will go back to my galaxy s6... so frustrating.

doing the "hard-reset" doesn't do anything, because the problem comes back in a few days...

anyone know how to downgrade the OS?

i will see how it files it through windows if i can find it will try it out but when apple had me wipe my iphone and try starting new but not signing into icloud it was still happening

now my phone is not turning on but. its on but its just an apple logo after you idea pleas help

I have the same problem with 6plus.

Black screen spinning wheel twice in a week.

I was texting something and boom.

No way to turn it off in the usual ways. I had to hold down power and home button. The screen powered off almost immediately BUT I had NO way to power it back on.

I had to restore via iTunes!

I never had this issue before with other ios version.

If it'll happen again I'll try regina's tip.
