iOS 10 Black Screen Spinning Wheel

Been using iOS 10.0.1 for about a week on an iPhone 6 and it's buggy. The issues below have only occurred since upgrading to iOS 10. Please fix in next release or provide solution.

1. Random black screen with spinning wheel. The upgrade went fine, so not that black screen. But at least daily my phone becomes unresponsive and shows a black screen with spinning wheel. After 5-10 seconds I'm prompted to enter my passcode as if the device has restarted. I'm not the only person experiencing this - and even managed to capture the image below.

2 - I've enabled the 'rest finger to open' option under home screen accessibility, but this doesn't always work. Again, about once a day, resting my finger to open results in me being prompted to press the home button to unlock. Each time this has happened I've checked and confirmed that the 'rest finger to open' option was enabled.

I have the same problem. (I get the black screen with spinning wheel then back to lock screen as if it was restarted). This happen every time I use YouTube, sat nav apps or any app stays on longer than 30 seconds. Even when I try to download updates.

Very disruptive and I feel like I've lost all my phone functions.

i can't solve it with the suggested solutions.

Apple ! Please solve this problem

it's iOS related

As a follow-up to my previous comment, I must say that I am disappointed with iOS 11.2 on my iPhone 7. It fixed my wife's iPhone 6 problem, but after installing 11.2 on my iPhone 7, battery life has dropped to about 3 hours 45 minutes. If your iPhone has become unusable due to the black screen and spinning wheel you have no choice but to install 11.2. But if you don't have that problem, do not install 11.2. I strongly advise waiting for 11.2.1 or later, hoping that next version will address the high battery consumption problem.

After you install 11.2, you need not worry about that spinning wheel again. You will need to worry about battery life though. My battery life exceeded 8 hours before but now I barely get 3 hours 45 minutes. A lot of friends who also have an iPhone 7 have reported the same, so I advise everyone I know to not install 11.2 unless their iPhone has been crippled by the spinning wheel bug. It really is a bad state of things right now regarding iOS on the iPhone.

I tried the Home button disable/enable. That worked for about 3 days. I was moving apps around and installed some new apps when the black screen with spinning wheel started up again. Doing soft reset & Home button disable/enable didn’t work this time. Read further down the thread and tried disabling all notification. That seems to have worked so far. I enabled just a few notifications for now and still didn’t black screen. I’m thinking I won’t be able to reorder my apps & run the risk of black screen again.

For reference, this black screen issue didn’t start until recently when i did the following:

- connected to WiFi at a new dental office & it did have a password.

- also put ringer on vibrate since I was at dental office. Hadn’t touched that switch in over a year.

Home button rest disable/enable worked for 3 days.

I don‘t believe I installed or updated any apps after the dental office, but the 2nd time the black screen came back, I know I was installing/updating/moving apps. Turning off all notifications seems to work so far and I’m slowly turning on notifications that I really need.

I also noticed I’m starting to run low on storage and have about 7GB left. Wondering if that has any bearing.

I see 11.2.1 is now available since 12/13. I usually wait a couple weeks at least before updating, but that maybe my next step if the black screen rears its ugly head again too soon!

I read all the possible solutions to the random black screen with the spinning wheel and found the only thing that worked was turning my battery on Low Power Mode. I’ve also found some functions don’t work when on Low Power Mode, but then I just turn it off, do what I need to do, then reset it back to Low Power Mode. I haven’t had a black screen when my battery is set on Low Power.

Possible quick fix until I can get my phone checked out.

Hey guys,

First time posting here because of this issue. Saw this behaviour now a couple of times on 10.0.1 and decided to go for a factory reset whilst upgrading to 10.0.2 today. After a few minutes encountered the black screen with white spinning wheel again. So even a factory reset won't do for you, I'm afraid...

Cheers

I'd like to 4th this. Wife's iPhone 6 regular is having this behavior and it's driving her crazy which means it's driving me crazy. Trying 10.0.2. Will let you know if this fixes it. Clearly an Apple problem not a "ya just gotta reset it" problem.

Don't you love the irony that Apple made ads that criticized Microsoft for having to reformat to fix slowness and issues, and yet Apple tech support's first and only answer is to reformat to fix slowness and issues?
