After upgrading to Sierra, for all my encrypted emails (mime) the attachments disappeared.
I do not see anything just a question mark instead of the attachment in each email.
With a backup I reimported a second time the mails but it hasn't changed anything.
Is ti a Sierra bug ? How to solve it ?

I opened one email with an attachment directly copied from my El Capitan backup and opened it in Sierra Mail app by doublecliking. It was working perfectly the attachment was visible.
I searched the same email in Sierra Mail App and the attachment was not anymore readable (just a question mark appears instead).
Conclusion: I thing that, while importing mailboxes, sierra mail is corrupting a part of the emails (.emlx) which are after import not anymore readable !
To get Apple's attention on this (or any other issue) we need to fill out a feedback report at

or call Apple and get a support ticket.
Apple may or may not notice posts to the support forums.
It's likely that the fix for this bug will, at the earliest, be rolled into the next macOS incremental update, which is in its fourth beta release.
I have the same issue as well in Sierra. No attachments
I am also using their new documents folder in the icloud. I suspect that is the issue.

I'm not using documents in iCloud.
As far as I can see, the problem is that Mail on the Mac doesn't display photo attachments. iCloud does.
I am missing pdf and doc attachments in Mail.
I hope everyone knows that this discussion thread is about attachments to S/MIME (encrypted) emails that can't be opened after upgrading to Sierra. Please see the first post.
Im getting the same issue, the attachment appears at first when the mail initially appears but as it downloads the attachment it vanishes!!
Luckily still available in the webmail version, if Apple dont fix this i will drop Mac Mail as my mail client. Will watch this thread with baited breath!
Hi yes I have problems with attachments and email on my iMac, not quite the same but the attachments will not load and emails will not send that contain attachments . The dialogue box keeps saying "attachments are still loading- pPlease wait for the attachments to complete and try again."
This is absurd. Every update they do nowadays there is some new problem that prevents us from doing critical work. So frustrated. How exactly are we supposed to get my email attachments? Just wait on apple to fix/resolve?!
PS - submitted another response to Feedback...I will figure out a work around for the time being...

I have a similar problem with encrypted emails sent to me with attachments. I can see them (with appropriate icons, not questions marks), but I can't open them or save them.
It now appears to me that sending encrypted email is also broken. I can go through the motions of sending encrypted email, but it's never sent and never appears in the sent folder.
I am having the same issue with MS Word attachments. I can view all attachments in iOS mail but not in my MBP after upgrading to Sierra.
I have deleted and recreated my IMAP mail account to ascertain if this fixes the problem.
PDF attachments are fine.
Starting immediately upon upgrading to Sierra, I started getting intermittent missing attachments to normal – not encrypted – Mail emails. It is very frequent, but not always. Tech savvy senders are double confirming the attachments are sent, but not showing up in my Mail. Oddly, on the email list the "has attachment paperclip" appears, but when the mail is opening the paperclip, and the attachment, disappears. Confirmen case have had attachments that vwere doc and pdf from Outlook and Yahoo servers
This is Definitely a bug! Please let us know when this is to be fixed. It is specific to Apple Mail on the Mac with Sierra NOT iOS.
