Files will not share via iMessage in OS X after upgrading to Sierra

Logic says there must be a difference somewhere but I cannot see anything that you have posted that is offering clues.

Do both versions of the Contacts App sort the contents the same way ?

I tend to use First names on both iPhone and Mac.

You mention a separate Mac in your set up.

I have my contacts synced with icloud and google, when I turn off google it still does not work

When I keep google contacts synced and turn off icloud it works !!!

It looks that the problem is with apple ! I have over 4,000 contacts in icloud to be exact 4,113

Is there a limit in icloud contacts ?

Now I created another user on my mac os sierra using the same icloud account with the same contacts synced form icloud and google and in this newly fresh created user the imessage share works !!??

I am lost here, anybody know how to fix this with my having to merge all of my work and files to the new user ?

I deleted duplicates, merged some cards and deleted some old cards that is not useful for me anymore

My contacts went from 4,300 to 900 and it seems to be working. I can share using iMessage from safari and file folders

I suspect that if contacts has over a certain number of contacts it starts interfering with the function of sharing using iMessages

When my contacts went under 4,000 to 3,300 it started working again, maybe it is a coincidence but it worth a test until apple figures this one out

I am experiencing this issue as well since upgrading to Sierra from El Capitan. It works (sometimes) on my Mac mini, but never works on my MacBook Air — both of which are signed into the same iCloud account (with 1,924 contacts). All other sharing extensions seem to work (AirDrop, Mail, Notes, etc.). The only Share extension that doesn't work is Messages.

Here are the Console messages I get when trying to Share via Messages (on the MacBook Air), which fails silently:

After 5 years of upgrading Mac OS and having many problems show up, including the share option using iMessage not working unless iCloud contacts being turned off (not practical) I decided for a clean install of Sierra and after that all the glitches are gone including the share using iMessage

Do you mean that you did an erase and install? I reinstalled Sierra from the Recovery partition (over the current installation) and that, unfortunately did not help.

Might (I stress Might) indicate it cannot identify the primary card.

It might also be saying that in the chat that this Share is about to happen in it can't tell which is the primary ID. (That could be "you" or the person you are sending to)

On the other hand it might mean that the Start Conversations From ID is not clear.

There are other lines about the First Name, Middle Name and Last name which might suggest deeper issues.

Of course these ideas only apply to the Original Poster.

This issue does not seem to be resolved on macOS Sierra 10.12.2.
