iMessage not loading old messages

#1I keep all my texts from the people I regularly text and I was going back on a convo and wanted to see something they texted me a month ago, but i was scrolling up like I normally do, and it stopped at a certain point and wouldn't load anymore.

Now I know I didn't delete the texts before that point, and I tried with other people and it's letting me go back up to a year. I tried force closing the Messages app and restarting my phone and nothing.

What's weird is the person in particular's messages wont load after a certain point but all the photos/gifs we've sent each other still appear in the "details" button.

Any advice or people having a similar issue?

iPhone 7 Plus, iOS 10

Was this ever resolved for you? I woke up this morning and an exchange of texts that lasted over a year was cut down to the last four days, as if the entire year never happened. I am on an 6s with 11.2.1 and the genius bar suggested I bring up my oldest iCloud backup, which only made the text exchange go back a few days more, but the entire year is still gone. Like someone else mentioned, all the images and attachments associated with the exchanges are there, it's just the texts/iMessages that are missing. And only from this one person. It's very sad to have them disappear like that. Any suggestions, anyone?

What's weird is all the images from the message thread are still there on the details page and the texts go back further on my Apple Watch than on my phone.

Doesn't the watch just use whats on the phone? I've noticed sometimes too with this person, that the read receipts don't update quickly. Sometimes he'll read my message at 9:41 for example but I won't see the "Read at 9:41" receipt until sometimes hours later.

It has always been checked to Keep Forever.

I checked and it seems to be only one person's text thread.

What's weird is that the messages go back further on my Apple Watch and when he responds im able to go back further but when I send another message I can't anyone.

I wonder why it's only with one person. I've tried force quitting the Messages app, I've tried soft reset. Only thing left to try is a hard reset.

I had the same issue and when I called Apple Support they said it was probably a bug with ios 10 and the engineers are likely fixing it as we speak. I tried resetting all settings and still the same issue.

Also, my messages have not only disappears, but as days go on, the last date I can see also changes. E.g. last week I could see back to Sept 1 for some contacts, and now I can only see until Sept 7 for the same contacts. =(

Try a Force Restart

Internet connection is not equal everywhere.

Make it's corrupted?

Idk if it's an iPhone 7 thing or an iOS10 thing? Do you think backing up and resetting with the backup would help?

Remember backup will backed up what you have at a given time (if it's not there it is not there). If the backup is older and when you restore from that backup, all new data after the backup date will be gone.
