iMessage not loading old messages

#1I keep all my texts from the people I regularly text and I was going back on a convo and wanted to see something they texted me a month ago, but i was scrolling up like I normally do, and it stopped at a certain point and wouldn't load anymore.

Now I know I didn't delete the texts before that point, and I tried with other people and it's letting me go back up to a year. I tried force closing the Messages app and restarting my phone and nothing.

What's weird is the person in particular's messages wont load after a certain point but all the photos/gifs we've sent each other still appear in the "details" button.

Any advice or people having a similar issue?

iPhone 7 Plus, iOS 10

I talked to Apple support and after an hour we tried the "reset all settings" option and it cleared up the issue.

Did you ever get an answer? It just happened to me on my iPhone 8 with iOS11.

FWIW, there's no such thing as Soft or Hard Reset on an iPhone.

There are:

Reset

Force Reset

Restore from Backup

Restore as New.

Maybe there's some issue when you restore backup from an old iPhone to a new iPhone.

Idk if it's an iPhone 7 thing or an iOS10 thing? Do you think backing up and resetting with the backup would help?

Remember backup will backed up what you have at a given time (if it's not there it is not there). If the backup is older and when you restore from that backup, all new data after the backup date will be gone.

I have the exact thing right now with 2 specific people...both of whom I texted around the same time last night but this morning it won't load there's. I have texted other people today and theirs are liado g

Was this ever resolved for you? I woke up this morning and an exchange of texts that lasted over a year was cut down to the last four days, as if the entire year never happened. I am on an 6s with 11.2.1 and the genius bar suggested I bring up my oldest iCloud backup, which only made the text exchange go back a few days more, but the entire year is still gone. Like someone else mentioned, all the images and attachments associated with the exchanges are there, it's just the texts/iMessages that are missing. And only from this one person. It's very sad to have them disappear like that. Any suggestions, anyone?

Check your iPhone's

Settings > Messages > scroll down under Message History > Keep Messages > choose Forever.

I am having the same issue, resetting the network settings and resetting the phone has not fixed my issue.

I have iOS 10.3.3
