iOS 10 exchange calendar sync issue

iOS 10 has introduced a bug that causes a problem with Exchange calendar sync. I am using an iPhone 5S and an iPad Air, with iOS 10.0.2 on both. My employer provides a shared calendar using Office 365 Exchange. I use Outlook 2013 on a Windows 7 laptop. Ever since I upgraded my iPhone & iPad to iOS 10 I've encountered a problem with syncing my calendar. Specifically, when I delete a single instance of a recurring event from my iPhone or iPad, the change does not sync to the server and is not reflected on my other devices. There is no problem if I do the deletion from Outlook on my laptop. I use recurring all-day reminders as "to-do's" so not being able to delete them from the device is a problem for me.

Based on something I saw in another form I tried disabling the "Events Found in Apps" button in Settings on my iPhone and iPad, and then disabling and re-enabling the Exchange calendar sync. This didn't resolve the problem.

Is there a fix or a workaround for this issue? If not, does anyone know how I can report this to Apple on the off chance they might care enough to fix the problem?

I have had this issue for 10-12 months. Specifically, calendar events added to the ios calendar do not always make their way to exhchange (and then to Outlook on my PC), but calendar events added to my Outlook calendar on my PC always make it to the ios calendar. Using the Outlook ios app instead of the native ios calendar is a workaround, but I want to use the native ios calendar. Near as I can figure, it is simply that apple does not play nice with Microsoft Active Sync, but what I find astonishing is that Apple refuses to acknowledge this as an issue and refuses to address correct it. ****, they have yet to reply to this thread. I'm seriously thinking of ditching my iphone7 and switching to Android as I cannot run the rise of the calendar events that I put in on my iphone not making it to my Outlook calendar (which is my main calendar). Has anyone discovered a solution? Thanks.

Good news and bad news: first, the good news: with help from Apple's Exchange Team, they have determined that the fault lies with-believe it or not-the Apple Watch. Specifically, when the watch is paired with the iphone, calendar events entered on the iphone tend to "get lost" and not make it to my Exchange calendar. I have been testing it out myself by turning off my Apple Watch and entering dummy calendar events on the iphone, and every one of them makes it to Exchange. By contrast, when my Apple Watch is paired with my iphone, the calendar events entered on the iphone more often than not do not make it to Exchange. The Exchange supervisor with whom I have been communicating (who was told of this issue from Apple's Engineering Dept) told me that this is a known issue, and that leads to the bad news: they've obviously known about it for quite a while, yet seem to be in no hurry to fix it. So essentially, my watch is rendered useless (because I cannot trust that calendar events entered on the iphone while paired with the watch will make it to my Exchange calendar). So what I'm going to do is see if they come up w a solution some time in the next month or so. If they don't, it will be sayonara iphone/Apple Watch and hello Google Pixel and Android watch.

i recently updated to 10.2 and found similar issue when adding new event on my iPhone but not showing in Outlook 2010 calendar (yes, i know it's 2017 now). Luckily it didn't take long that I solved it (at least still working so far) by editing the event calendar type and switching it to personal then back to Outlook (which is my default).... weird!

Now when i add new event in my iPhone it just sync with my desktop outlook calendar without problem, meaning you need only to do the above switching tricks one time... to trigger

I don't have older iOS version devices so not sure it works to all iOS 10 users. Hope this help and keep working (while touching my wooden desk >_<)

We have the same Problems with Exchange 2010 and Windows 7

We have open a Ticket at Microsoft Support. - They have no Solution 😟

When you edit, change, remove single instance of a recurring Event often they get a Bad Item Mark and the iOS Device won't Sync. They Problem stack if many Users have access at the Calendar.

We delete the Exchange Profile - Reboot the Device and reenter the Exchange Profile

This problem is a huge hindrance to my business and is unacceptable. It's even more frustrating because it only sometimes doesn't work so apparantly it's not important enough for Apple to fix. Needs to be fixed asap because meetings will be missed which could be lost revenue or even missed opportunities to save lives! We live by our phones and need and expect them to work properly and seamlessly. We know that mistakes happen but this one should have been fixed already as it's been over 10months and the problems continues to persist. Please fix asap, thanks!!

Hello

We have the same issue since the launch of IOS 10 back in September 2016. I'm waiting for each update as a solution for this problem but still no luck...

Some calendar items are well synchronized and some are not (most of the time, updated/cancelled/deleted on Outlook but not on the device). We have an Exchange 2010 server with Mobileiron as the MDM and iPhone 6/6s/7 and IOS >10.

I thought a problem was with our servers but this post shows we are not alone in the dark ...

As Apple is still not solving issue (fingers crossed for IOS 10.3 ...), we are considering upgrading our server to Exchange 2016 which uses the new Activesync version.

Just chiming in that I also have this same issue. I do have an apple watch as well, which was mentioned as a possible cause of the problem. I've been experiencing this problem for awhile and have already deleted and re-added the account multiple times. Just now I created two simple events, one showed up on exchange and one didn't.

I first tried adding a location to the event, but it still would not show up. I then changed the date to one day later and it showed up in exchange. Changed it back to the original date and now it's fine.

I don't believe the issue is the apple watch. I've had this issue before I ever had an apple watch. Secondly my CEO has the same issue and he does not have an Apple Watch. It is getting much more prevalent to the point where I'm now searching for other calendar apps and it's making me crazy. I can't change the fact that we use Exchange for our calendars but I can change what calendar app or phone I use. Very very frustrating.

I've got issues as well and am frustrated to no end that calendar sync, in 2017 is still such an unreliable mess, especially given two major computer companies who cannot get it to work. Is it this hard?

I'm on a corporate exchange server, where recurring and single event meetings get scheduled. I'm running iTunes there, and iOS 10 on my phone. Pluging in the phone, opening the phone screen in itunes and manually hitting sync (because the auto-sync was such a pain with its insitance of backing up every time and then complaining about the 150gig of free space not being enough to back up the 40g of data from the phone - but thats a whole nother problem with ios/itunes).

Usually the first time I hit sync, it says its syncing and within a second or so is done.. not having done anything. Then I hit the sync button a second time.. and now it appears to sync, showing 'syncing calendars' as part of the text it shows. Fine.

But it makes a mess of the calendar. Events that were deleted in exchange/outlook on the desktop as the meeting organizer cancelled the next occurrence of the meeting only (but are still on the phone as I'd not synced it yet).... upon sync iTunes puts the cancelled meeting BACK onto my desktop calendar (presumably from the phone). WRONG. Ok, go and find the meeting cancel email, again have it remove the meeting event for today. Again sync... and again, itunes sync puts the meeting back on the desktop calendar. ***? The owning device of the meeting is the exchange server, the change is that it has removed an instance from there... the ONLY correct action is to mirror that change on the PHONE (remove today's meeting occurrence) and is never to 'recreate the meeting from the phone's copy'.

Its to the point that i have zero confidence that the calendar entries on the iPhone represent reality after a sync, and such that I'm also not confident the exchange meetings are accurate either because the phone keeps re-inserting events it should not have.

Come-on guys, MSFT and APPL get your S together.

I didn't think it would either. The iphone I am dealing with is on Verizon as well, I couldn't get it to work on the corporate wi-fi either. Then I connected it to a t-mobile hotspot and the whole calendar just showed up. So I went into exchange and it was syncing instantly while on my t-mobile hotspot, but when I went back to the built-in verizon connection it broke again. It is completely repeatable.

Kind of annoying if this is the reason, since we upgraded the phone when the last one was having the same problem and also upgraded the Exchange server to 2016 because of the problem. The phone it is happening on just happens to belong to the top dog around here.

I am also using Verizon and on Exchange 2016 now too. Generally when this happens I am not on wifi because I am out of the office making the apts that don't sync. I have not tested wifi vs LTE to see if it's only happening on LTE. I will have to test that theory out. I also changed from PUSH to FETCH for mail to see if that helped at all. I haven't had a chance to prove it out yet though. I'll test this weekend and see what the results show.
