How to use iphone 7 headphones on mac?

Hi,

I'm wondering how I will be able to use my iphone 7 headphones with my computer? In the box that came with the phone, the adapter included allows me to make my phone compatible with aux cords....however, the adapter does not work in reverse order to allow my headphones to be compatible to plug into a aux cord outlet. Help.

Why are you telling us? This is a user-to-user forum. Apple does not read it. If you want to tell Apple go to https://apple.com/feedback.

Most of use have very simple solutions:

  • Keep our Bluetooth headphones charged, or
  • Spend $5 for another set of headphones, or $20 if you want really good ones

I find it hard to believe that you don't have older headphones; I have about a dozen.

But anyway, there is no solution that meets your contrived strawman.

No, I'm not. We do have something we agree on, why not drop including headphones. Sony did it long ago with the Discman. But you won't see a big savings if they do, it costs Apple less than $2 to include the headphones. The included adapter is more expensive.

So why are they included? Because at the time Apple dropped the headphone jack there were no headphones with a Lightning connector available. I've never used the included Apple headphones except for a short period with one doomed model of the iPod Shuffle and most people I know who have used good headphones don't either. But you see a lot of people who do and it is quickly apparent they are Apple. Since there were no other ones available Apple changed the connector and included them with the device so purchasers of the iPhone 7 would have headphones to use out of the box. They did not intend for them to be used with other devices with headphone jacks. They were made exclusively for device with a lightning connector. If you would like Apple to stop including them then go here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple

Yes, that's true.

This is neither simple nor user friendly

Why is the adapter cable causing you difficulties? Are you having some sort of problem with yours? If you are, and you explain what it is, perhaps someone can help you resolve it.

Why? Why not just have the simple 3.5mm Klinkenbuchse on the phone?

No one here can give you a definitive answer as we are your fellow users, not Apple.

You are absolutely missing they point. I just bought the iPhone X and own the newest MacBook Pro. I am going on a trip. If I bring along the EarPods included with the iPhone X I can't connect them to my MacBook. If I bring along other headphones I have to use an adapter cable to attach them to my iPhone. This is neither simple nor user friendly and against the design goals of Apple.

It's YOU who are missing the point. If there was an adapter to use Lightning port earphones you would have to take along Lightning Earphones and the Lighting to Macbook adapter.. If you use 3.5 mm earphones you would have to bring along 3.5 mm earphones and an earphone to Lightning adapter to connect to the phone. In either case, you need 2 things:

  • Earphones
  • An Adapter

Exactly the same.

Another suggestion that just might work:

Take this adapter.

Connect one of these adapters.

Connect it to this adapter.

Voila! (Maybe??) 🙂

It is way too much equipment, but the only way that just might work...

Also, instead of using the USB adapter above, you could use the adapter that came with the iPhone 7, and get a double-aux adapter (like this) as well. The double-female lightening adapter really helps in this situation.

So, the official order would be headphone lightening jack > double-female lightening adapter > adapter that comes with iPhone 7 > double-ended aux adapter > plug into Macbook or other source.

Hm, it works for me with the double-ended aux cord, but I already had the equipment and did not have to buy it all at once. Also, yes, buying another set of headphones would be the easier solution, however, I was only answering the specific question that was asked - "how I will be able to use my iphone 7 headphones with my computer?" I'm only trying to be helpful.

Nope, it doesn't work.

Wouldn't it be simpler, rather than buying all those adapters, just to buy another set of headphones that actually works with the computer?

Buy? How about using one of the dozens you have already kicking around? Or the one that you used with your Mac before you got the iPhone 7?

The connector for the Apple Pencil has been tried by a number of people. I've yet to see a report where it works.
