How to use iphone 7 headphones on mac?

Hi,

I'm wondering how I will be able to use my iphone 7 headphones with my computer? In the box that came with the phone, the adapter included allows me to make my phone compatible with aux cords....however, the adapter does not work in reverse order to allow my headphones to be compatible to plug into a aux cord outlet. Help.

I was using iPhone 5 headphones, which you can plug anywhere since they have a 3.5 mm headphone plug. Sorry if being too suspicious, but was frustrating to find out I cannot use my new iPhone headphones anywhere else.

So why do you need to buy anything new? You have headsets that work with your Mac. If you want, you can use those headsets with your iPhone 7 using the adapter that came in the box with the phone.

As its known you can't manually connect the lighting earbuds to the mac, I was wondering if you could use your iPhone 7 as a mid point by connecting your Mac to your phone over Bluetooth. While having your lightning earbuds directly plugged into the iPhone 7, and use it that way. Although I'm not sure if that would even work.

And it seems so, so much more complicated than just plugging a headset that fits into the jack on your Mac.

Don’t even bother replying to those type of people. They get on here hoping you will respond to their ignorance.

They act as though there was never a time where they needed headphones and the only headphones they had were the Apple “lack there of” headphones and they were just a**ed out having to leave what they were doing just to go purchase ANOTHER set of headphones because the ones that were ALREADY purchased lacked the simple ness of a headphone.

Its a legit complaint.

However, as Apple is not reading here for suggestions, there's no point in making it here.

I should not have to purchase a different device (earpods) for each separate device I have.

Most people already own headphones that they can use with their computers. Therefore, they need buy nothing. The adapter to use those existing headphones comes packaged in the box with the iPhone.

You are absolutely missing they point. I just bought the iPhone X and own the newest MacBook Pro. I am going on a trip. If I bring along the EarPods included with the iPhone X I can't connect them to my MacBook. If I bring along other headphones I have to use an adapter cable to attach them to my iPhone. This is neither simple nor user friendly and against the design goals of Apple.

Sad truth is I already bring along several adapters with my MacBook and I am having problems connecting external devices to it. And now another adapter for my iPhone? Why? Why not just have the simple 3.5mm Klinkenbuchse on the phone? Or if this is too primitive for Apple, why not have the same USB-C port on the phone that is on the MacBook with a headphone included that works directly with USB-C?

You don't have to carry around multiple headphones. Use headphones that fit your Mac and put the adapter on them to use with your iPhone. Or, get a set of BlueTooth headphones. They will work with both. AirPods are nifty but there are certainly less expensive options.

I feel your frustration! I need to listen to some videos (they won't load on my Iphone X), but I can't because my bluetooth headphones aren't charged. I can't use the headphones that came with my X because they are not compatible with the MacBook Air. The fact everyone says "just use old headphone or the adapter that comes with the new phone with the old headphones", is not always the solution.....what happens when you A. broken the old headphones, B. kids have taken over the old headphones (and now broken), C. simply don't have any old headphones that are working, D bluetooth headphones aren't charged? I hate carrying multiple cords, multiple headphones, and often times multiple devices. This isn't a problem just more of an inconvenience. I didn't charge my headphones and now I'm looking around the internet to see what other's have done to use their new Apple headphones with other Apple devices while I wait for them to charge.

Not really, because then you have to carry around two sets of headphones to commute to work: the OM useless apple headphones with the stupid lightning jack, and another pair for normal use with a computer. Or shell out another $100+ for some decent bluetooth phones. Ahhh Apple, you've done it again. Now I regret buying an iPhone, again. Should've gone Android.

If you’re paying for a $1,400 laptop and a $900 phone the, correction* $25, earbuds should work without a hitch.

Why? Why does what you paid for the devices mean they have to work with every accessory out there? I paid closer to $2000 for my Macbook Pro. It doesn't work with any of my older USB accessories without an adapter. I may or may not have a problem with that but it has absolutely nothing to do with what I paid for the computer.

And, cheap headsets do work with your Mac, just not the ones that came with your iPhone.

I completely agree with this. The headphones and accessories with iPhone and Macs have always worked together and I just want to carry one set of headphones on a flight LIKE I ALWAYS HAVE IN THE PAST and have them work on both devices. I just bought the iPhone x wanted to watch Netflix on my Mac and realized my iPhone headphones wont work with my mac. I only have the one with me right now because they've always worked together before and didn't think to carry two sets of headphones. I assumed the adaptor would work with my Mac. I didn't even look at the adaptor before I left I just assumed... everything has always been so easy and user friendly in the past I just assumed and I didn't even think about it... I wasn't thrilled about the adaptor but now I have an adaptor that I am guaranteed to lose and I'll have to purchase another adaptor or set of headphones in the future that won't even work with my mac. PIA.
