I'm wondering how I will be able to use my iphone 7 headphones with my computer? In the box that came with the phone, the adapter included allows me to make my phone compatible with aux cords....however, the adapter does not work in reverse order to allow my headphones to be compatible to plug into a aux cord outlet. Help.

for the Lightening wired iPhone 7 headphones you need a 3rd party lightening to 1/8" (3.5mm ) adapter.

these are for connecting 3.5mm headphones to an iPhone 7, but nothing else.
At this time I have not seen a Lightening port to 3.5mm that has an inverted end to accept the headphone
the aftermarket Apple Airpods are bluetooth and do not require a physical adapter although to take full advantage of these headphones full set of features you need iOS 10 or OS 10.12 Sierra and an iCloud account.

As you may know, a lightning connector is not on a computer and only noncomputers, You may be able to buy an adapter to an audio jack but Apple does not include one.

Yes, they should cry over the fact that the $2 headphones that they give away specifically to work with an iPhone don't work on a computer.

No you aren't forced to buy an adapter because there isn't one that will allow you to use the headphones you got with your iPhone 7 on a MacBook. Even if you wanted to buy one none exists.
You can use them with any device that has a Lightning connector, including your iPhone 5. They are cheap headphones not too sure why you find this frustrating.
There is no Bluetooth profile on the iPhone to do that so no it will not work.
And I entirely disagree with you, as I am allowed to.
I have discovered that Apples headphones fit perfectly in both of the places they were designed to be fitted, the iPhone and another receptacle I have available to me.

No, you don't have to carry two, although if you use a older EarPod set together they don't take up much space. Use some headphones with a 3.5 plug and carry your adapter.
If you’re paying for a $1,400 laptop and a $900 phone the, correction* $25, earbuds should work without a hitch. Grow up.
