Poor Reception iPhone 7 Plus

Hi,

I recently upgraded to the iPhone 7 Plus and I am getting horrible reception, people can't hear me or I sound muffled, (I had no issue on my 4S or 6 Plus). My provider is the same, Bell Mobility in Canada, and I'm using the phone as I did the others, there is also no case on the phone. I've noticed the signal bars all over the place at times, I know those are not an exact science but they've been very erratic. For the most part I can hear whom I am talking to, but people have a hard time hearing me, has anyone else noticed poor call reception on their iPhone 7 Plus or have a fix for this issue?

Thanks,

JD

I'm in the middle of downtown Atlanta, practically next to an AT&T cell tower. Had constant problems over the past month w/ very low signal strength, dropped calls, and erratic signal strength (4 bars then 2 bars then 1 bar then 3 bars). Lost track of the no. of calls to AT&T tech support. Tried everything - including restoring phone to new phone status. Nothing helped. Once I made this setting change (Settings>Cellular>Cellular Data Options>UNCLICK "Enable LTE") the signal strength immediately jumped to 4-5 bars.

Does the Apple team have a response to the following article? https://www.extremetech.com/mobile/237984-iphone-7s-with-intel-modems-struggle-b adly-in-low-signal-areas

From the article: "...the Intel modem drops off significantly as signal strength weakens. Cellular Insights tested multiple LTE bands (Band 4, 7, and 12) in a 4×2 MIMO configuration."

Are phones covered under "no lemon" laws. The article clearly shows the case is not the issue as all AT&T/T-Mobile phones are affected. Are there plans to replace iPhone 7 phones with new 8 versions?

Yep. Yesterday I swapped my iP 6 for an iP 7. Sitting at the same desk in my house, by the same window on the same network, there is a huge difference in reception. 4 bars of possible 5 on iP6. 1 of 5 on iP7. The iP7 came out of its box 24 hours ago.

It's shinier and faster (yay) but it's not performing its core duty.

I just had an important call and had to go outside to take it. I live in Canada, so for 6 months of the year that is not an option.....

Curvy screen Samsung here I come folks.

PS I work in mobile networks and know exactly what I am talking about....no Apple tech support can tell me about blocking functionality on the air interface. The antenna is crap lads. Crap.....

I wrote the same thing a while back about the terrible reception I get Witt my iPhone 7 and how I have been an Apple fan since the 80s. Apple just took my comment down. So how many comments from people who are upset because they can't use their phone properly for its main function...talking on the phone.

I can hear people but they can't hear me. I constantly lose reception. My iPhone 6 was fine and all of my kids who have old iPhones or Androids can talk on their phones just fine.

Apple needs to do a recall!!!!

Omg yes!!! I only ever have one bad. My friends and family get so annoyed because they cannot hear me and if they can it goes in and out. I reported the problem to att and they did some trouble shooting and couldn't find the issue. I've had my phone over a month and before this phone i had no issues. Full service. My husband works offshore and he would call me from his iPhone 5 and never had a dropped call or muffle to the sound. It's definitely not att. It is the phone. I'm so annoyed with it. I tried contacting apple and they pass the buck. Saying it's my location or my home causing lack of bars. I explained to them that's not possible because I have lived here for years without issue and my husband who still has his 5s has clear constant reception and all bars.

So what do we do? Apple won't acknowledge a problem that probably every iPhone 7 user has. Why does Apple not acknowledge the problem? Why no recall and replacement? I would gladly go back to iPhone 6. I have a 2nd iPhone 7 in a box I got Dorn my husband. He wants nothing to do with it. He can't afford to not have a functional phone since it doubles as a business phone.

Both my husband and I have had the worst time being heard in our phones. I first blamed my carrier. Then I blamed interference in my neighborhood some how. But it's not either of those things. I've been living with this for over two months now. I've lost so much business and can't afford to. I read your post and can't believe Apple hasn't recalled all our phones. They need to

I have never had 5 bars of reception ever on the iphone 7 it rarely gets 4. In the same places my 4s gets one bar where my 7 gets "no service."

Then the only reason I upgraded from the 4s to the 7 is because ios 9 destroyed its performance and made it slow to the max.

This is crazy! I am still paying full price and there is nothing that can be done except get ripped off!!

Hi Yes,

I have exactly the same issues as you explained and every day I am losing so many dropped calls from people that goes directly to my voicemail.

I am using the same network as you. This is very annoying, people complain they don't hear me but I hear them very well. I get failed calls in middle of conversation and phone disconnects.

I paid $1350 for this phone and This is what I am getting from Apple. Apple seems so all over the place after Steve Jobs.

The fix of disabling the LTE is both the network and phone's fault. I spoke to a cell phone tech. The 4G system on AT and T and Verizon is not great for voice. So when you call, the phone tries to "upgrade" the signal to LTE but the 3G signal might be better. The phone fights itself going back and forth. The U.S. networks are not up to speed with phones. So if you get a new 5G phone, it is like getting an electric car. Not many places to charge in public. The 4G / LTE network is data, not really voice.

I am SO irritated. We had crappy phone service for 5 years with Metro. I just purchased two Apple IPhone 7 plus phones at Best Buy a little over a week ago and both of them are doing the same thing as yours. In addition we have dropped calls and can't hear. I took them to the Apple store and was advised this is the first IPhone in which "antennas" were used and is causing connectivity issues. More than half the time I cannot connect to the internet without WiFi. This phone is no better than the phones we had at Metro. SO much hype for a phone with the only positive being the camera.
