iMessage problems after password change

Yesterday I had to change my password for my Apple ID (someone had logged in on a device that wasn't me). Ever since I have not been able to send or receive iMessages on my Mac or my iPhone, I've entered my new Apple ID information on both. I have tried A LOT of things I've read on here and other sites already. Can anyone help? Starting to get frustrated.

Hi Bmacphee1985,

I understand that after updating your Apple ID password, you've had some issues sending and receiving iMessages on your devices. I know it's important to keep in touch with friends and family, so I'm happy to help.

Are you getting any error messages when you try to send an iMessage from either device?

To start, make sure you've updated all of your devices and login locations after updating your Apple ID password. This article outlines all of the necessary steps:

What to do after you change your Apple ID email address or password - Apple Support

If you're still having issues after that, this article has some additional steps for troubleshooting sending and receiving iMessages on your iPhone:

If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

On your Mac, open Messages and then in your menu bar open Messages > Preferences > Accounts . If your Apple ID is already signed in, then let's refresh this by signing out and in again. To do this, choose your Apple ID on the left, then click Sign Out . Once signed out, sign in again with your new credentials.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Cheers!

I'm experiencing this EXACT problem which started yesterday (9/29/16). I received an email stating that a foreign device tried to log into my account so i changed my password. Since then I haven't been able to send nor receive IMessages. I've called both my carrier and Apple support and was on the phone with one of their senior staff members and STILL was not able to fix the problem. Eventually out of frustration i asked for the issue to be reported to their engineering staff and she reported that it would take a few days to hear back from them. I went through every step imaginable on my end to get things to work but nothing......smh
