macOS Sierra freeze on iMac late 2009 using Safari

Hey guys,

Since the installation of macOS Sierra on my iMac 27 inch late 2009, I'm experiencing freezes of the computer with the following symptoms:

- the freeze occurs when I scroll a webpage in Safari.

- The mouse cursor still moves but I can't click and manipulate the system ; the keyboard doesn't work, as well.

- A force reboot is mandatory to recover.

- I can establish a ssh connection from my MacBook to the iMac, suggesting that Darwin is still running well.

- The log indicates "userspace_watchdog_timeout.spin report for WindowServer version", suggesting that the problem is related to a crash of the WindowServer.

Somebody here with the same machine has the same problem?

Thanks!

Hey guys,

I have a good news. I asked through my bug report when this problem is supposed to be fixed.

Bug report team told me that the bug is still under investigation BUT they say also that I should test this issue on macOS 10.12.5.

Hopefully, a fix will be proposed in the coming macOS 10.12.5 update. 🙂

Everyone,

The best way to push Apple to investigate and resolve this issue is for as many of us as possible to file bug reports. Apple DOES take into account the number of duplicate reports created for an issue when assigning priority, so don't sit on your hands because someone else in this thread has already reported it.

Here's how to file a report:

1. Go to bugreport.apple.com and sign in / register. You can only sign in if you are a registered developer.

2. Create a new issue and accurately describe it as related to your Late 2009 iMac (or other system) and Safari. Designate it as a "serious" bug.

3. Apple will reply to you after you submit the report and ask you for a sysdiagnose taken while the issue is occurring. I have confirmed that you can do this during the crash. If you want, you can submit a sysdiagnose taken during the crash with your original bug report to save yourself the back and forth communication. Here's how to take a sysdiagnose:

- Wait for the crash to occur

- Simultaneously press Shift+Control+Option+Command+Period(.)

- Although nothing appears to be happening because of the freeze, a sysdiagnose is being performed.

- Wait 15 minutes for the sysdiagnose to complete (you won't know when it's done, but 15mins is a safe amount of time) and then restart the system.

- Find your sysdiagnose file in the /var/tmp directory. (Open the Finder, then in the Go menu choose "Go to Folder..." and type in /var/tmp).

- Your sysdiagnose file will be in this directory as a .tar.gz file (or a folder if you restarted before it completed).
