Since upgrading to macOS Sierra, when I try to open Adobe Illustrator CS5, I get the message, To open “Adobe Illustrator CS5” you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime. When I click on more info it opens a blank page. Can somebody tell me how to remedy/resolve/install this?
Does apple have a link for legacy Java SE 6 runtime?

You are absolutely correct. Apple doesn't offer the SDK—hasn't in many years—only the JRE. Since Oracle bought SUN, they can't.
The JRE meets the needs for those of us running Adobe CS5 & 6, Finale 2014.5, MasterWriter 2, SmartScore and many other 32bit apps that still run in High Sierra — if you have the JRE 6.
The 2015-001 installer works in OS 10.13 but not 10.13.1.
I must confess that I have never encountered a Mac app that required the SDK instead of the JRE, development tools excepted (the earlier post about LibreOffice is wrong on that point).
Blurb might want to consider updating to 64bit. As Apple has announced that OS 10.14 will drop 32 bit, it's way past time.

A tech site suggested using a code in terminal: sudo rm -fr /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin
I used it but nothing happens? I don’t see it removed in terminal? Nothing happens do I have the correct code?

While this particular command wasn't dangerous, you should never run Terminal commands without knowing what they do. The rm means remove. As in, delete. On top of that, you invoked sudo (Super User DO), which gives you temporary root power to delete almost anything. Luckily, that command would only delete Oracle's Java 7 or 8 from the folder named in the path, if it exists, and not system files.
Follow Eric's link again to get the latest version of Apple's Java 6.

So this move basically rolls back the Java to an older version... is that a correct description? If so, what effects, if any, does this rollback have on other software and usability of the OS?
No. Apple's Java 6 and Oracle's Java 8 are completely independent of one another and can be on your Mac at the same time.
The OS will not allow the older version to be used in web browsers.
Thanks for the quick reply. So when you follow the link above for "Java for OSX" and install it, no change is made to the existing Oracle Java, you are just adding the OSX Java (for lack of a more elaborate explanation)?
Correct. Nothing about Java 8 changes. Java 8 exists entirely in one package file in the main Library's Internet/Plug-Ins folder. Java 6 is installed all over the place, mostly in hidden folders totalling roughly 1300 files and folders.
There is no uninstaller for Java 6, but if you ever want it off the drive, the easiest, though a bit time consuming way to do it, is to reinstall the OS. Java 6 is removed as part of the process.
