Mail Account Access after BT password change

The recent well advertised Yahoo security issues have had BT issue instructions to change email passwords. This I have done to one of my 4 'btinternet.com' email addresses.

Having changed the password Mail is not recognising the new password and yet I can access through BT Webmail with no problem.

Have spoken to BT this evening - but they were unable to resolve the matter stating that the problem is with my Apple Product, not with BT, and that other Mac users have had similar issues. That would seem to be the case as I can access the changed password email via BT Webmail but not via 'Mail' on my Mac.

BT have placed a 5 day guillotine on email addresses - they will be blocked if users have not changed their passwords by then!!

Any answers to this glitch please?

Open Keychain Access in Utilities, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.

You may have multiple entries.

Open Keychain Access in Utilities, enter the part after the @ sign in the search bar, hit enter

Thanks BD Aqua - sorry for the delay in getting back to you ... been away from my Mac!

Tried to understand your methodology - not being too IT literate I did as you suggested but didn't notice any 'positive response' from the 'Keychain' route.

Then I went back into Mail / Accounts & Selected my main BT ID Account and hey presto it worked once the bottom box had been populated with"@btinternet.com". This was not the case earlier in the day.

This evening I have changed the password on my secondary email account (which is not listed on 'Keychain') and I have the same issue as yesterday - it does not accept the username / (new) password ... And yet I have changed my secondary email account password successfully on my iPad & iPhone through Settings / Mail / and simply typing the new password.

So now I can use both mobile devices but not my iMac for my secondary email account. Why does the Mac have to be so different & problematic when all three items are from the same stable??
