Logic Users, Stop Mindlessly Upgrading the OS

Unless all of your third party plugins, audio driver and related software is Sierra compatible do not automatically upgrade without checking the forums first.

Logic 9 users, do not upgrade to Sierra, there are problems. Logic 9 will probably never be fully supported in Sierra.

I can't answer your question but every time there's a "name" update OS, the troubles in this forum go through the roof. And that includes the Logic version concurrent at the time any given New OSX version was released.

It's not just plugins, amps whatever... many here use separate audio interfaces, many of these are USB based, many of these interfaces require custom drivers by the manufacturer, OS updates have often caused failed USB devices. Also, some system compliant USB devices have been rendered inoperable as Apple upgrades the system USB drivers for each new OS release.

If you run Logic, it's much better not be a guinea pig and hold off a few weeks, that is if recording/playing back audio if important to you.

you music dudes need to come over to the OS X forums or the iOS ones to hear some real gems. Yesterday I had someone who had a CD and they wanted to sell the music on itunes because they couldn't find it there, they did not own the music, but sought royalties from sales....

...Come to think of it that's how the sales end of music biz has been explained to me by my friends who are session players.

There's a portion of truth in that statement, the other half is the greed/bottom line of record companies added to the Internet pirating added to the plethora of great recording equipment at a fraction of the cost to even rent a studio for a week. Someone with good ears, a hunk of "Talent" and a solid understanding of recording/editing can make remarkable recordings for a under a 1K software investment. There used to be a fellow 10-12 years ago that used an old Cubase 5 program and made stunning pop masterpieces using the stock plugins... a shadow of what Logic is now. Most people will use only 10% of Logic's capabilities.. and that may be a high estimate. Most of the time it comes down to talent and hard work.

Hi Paul,

Nice blog and article. So, so true about the four-track cassette deck, even had a Yamaha that would run at 3.75ips, love the sound of some of the recordings I made back then... the value of limitations cannot be underestimated.

The organization, the choices made when no going back is possible.

I bookmarked you a year or two ago, this time I put it where it can be seen, I'll be back.
