Since updating to Sierra, my Apple Mail has not been able to log in to Gmail. At first Mail asked for my Gmail password on every startup but, now it doesn't ask for the password and I can't find any place in Apple Mail or Internet Accounts to enter the password.
Anyone else ?

I have same problem: " Mac mail has been working just fine for me after upgrading to Sierra. Just today it gives me the little "!" next to the Inbox, but no other error message"
If I will remove my pop3 gmail account configuration I will lose my emails, stored locally?
Had the same issue and I looked at my other iMac that was stopped at Yosemite.
System Preferences select internet accounts.
you might find that the Google is no longer listed as an account so create a new one .
Enter all the requested login password stuff.
Then select the new Google listing and turn on mail in the right hand selector list, again answer the login information.
My Gmail accounts instantly showed up in Sierra mail.
You should be using Gmail as IMAP not POP. Apple Mail will want to setup as IMAP not POP. You might need to adjust your settings in your browser by logging into your Gmail account > Settings > Forwarding and Pop/IMAP. I suggest you uncheck POP and activate IMAP.
When you add Gmail account back as IMAP, all messages on the Gmail server including any labels that have messages will be downloaded. Most likely you will not need the exported data from your current POP default folders. However depending on how you deleted messages, you should export your current data.
Note: A Gmail 'label' is a folder in Mail.
When you remove a POP account it also deletes the messages in the default folders (Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Trash, Junk). It does not delete any messages stored in the local "On My Mac" folders.
Export your POP default folders:
There is no progress bar. However the name will contain "partial" until it is complete.
I was having the same problem. However, I saw in another string that Avast was blocking the attempt to log-in.
So, I disabled Avast and logged in to my gmail accounts with no issue.
Do you have Avast??
I deactivated Avast (mail-shield), and my gmail account in Mail is working just fine again.

I have had the Gmail problem but, do have Avast. As mentioned earlier, my problem was fixed when I used the little logon button in the favourites bar.
A virus checker shouldn't be the case unless it is interfering with Apple Mail's communications. You could try turning off the option to check emails but keep Avast going otherwise.

OMG!!! This was a fantastic fix, and simple too! I have five gmail accounts; I followed these instructions with least critical account and it automatically fixed them all! THANK YOU!
Good point. I forgot to mention that once you sign-in to your all of your accounts... Turn Avast back on.

I forgot to mention... You can turn Avast back on after you sign-in to all of your accounts. It seems to just be an issue on the initial sign-in.
