Unable to combine into single document in Preview

Since upgrading to macOS Sierra I'm unable to get my Epson WF-3640 to to combine into single document in Preview. If I select PDF and combine it scans all pages in the ADF but only the first one shows up in Preview. The Epson scan sofrtware program seems to be able to scan just fine.

How do I get Preview working again?

A couple of updates:

First, everyone having this issue should submit feedback to Apple at http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html You won't get a direct response, but the more bug reports they get, the more likely they are to take notice and fix it.

I tried scanning as a multipage PDF using the flatbed scanner instead of the sheet feeder and got the same result.

I found a fairly easy workaround: Importing a document as a multipage TIFF document does work. You can then easily export this as a PDF. When I tried this I found what appears to be another bug in that the first page/face shows up twice, so a 3 page document would actually have 2 page ones and end up as 4 pages, but you can very easily delete the extra page one and be on your way.

A second workaround is to open the Image Capture app and import from the scanner this way; I tried this and both multipage TIFF and PDF scans appear to work as expected.

I've had the same problem on an HP Officejet Pro 8500A. After reading this thread, I decided "screw it," and just unchecked the box for "Combine into a single document." I decided I'd just make separate files, then go into finder, select them all, open in Preview, select all pages, and export as PDF. However, after unchecking this box, it added each new scan into the preview window, essentially doing exactly what I wanted. Weird enough that I decided to contribute for the first time ever to a support thread.

Try this: set 'Scan To' = Desktop, 'Format' = PDF and check off the 'Combine into single document'. Any Name to save your scanned file will do. I usually use the Flatbed to scan, only because the Document Feeder of my HP 8600 PLUS does not feed paper well and tends to jam.

The only real difference in this scenario vs. yours is scanning to the Desktop, as opposed to into Preview app. It's worth a try, as it does not take much time. This works for me. Good luck, Bradford.

'System Preferences' under the Apple-icon menu is tailored to the scanner/printer you're using. To answer your question, yes, the fact that you have an Epson can cause a slightly different display to show.

One observation after looking at your screenshot more closely. The title bar of your scan says "Imported from PID ...", while mine says "Scanner". How did you open your scanner? Did you use 'System Preferences/Printers/Scanner', or the app Image Capture, or something else? Although the options displayed may not be any different, another thing to try would be opening your Epson scanner by using the app Image Capture.
