Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
I take the following picture with my new iPhone 7 Plus (only one example).

So as you can see, this is really crap.
What is the problem? Is it a Hardware of Software (10.0.2) issue?
The results of my old iPhone 6s Plus were better...

I sometimes look at past photos taken with iphone 4S, 5S and 6S. Those pictures look nice, good color reproduction, good details. Why do you think Apple sid not show any landscape and colorfull photos in their iphone 7 keynote, like they used to with older models?? They knew that color reproduction is horrible, oil painted and details are crap.
I do not expect a perfect phone, but seriously, I do expect a decent camera!
Point to note, my Spare SE tends to take better photos, not sure if it's the same with the 6S / 6S Plus
Same here - perfect lightbox, a decade of experience, really bad pictures.
Unfortunately you can't solve it unless you take RAW and then edit to come up with a jpeg.
I have an iphone 8 and the problem with lack of details is here also...
I’ve noticed as well the iPhone 8 does similar to the 7 in terms of over processed photos. What is apple thinking ?
Why don't you just go to Settings>Camera>Preserve Settings>and turn on the Live Photo option to prevent Live Photo from turning on unless you tap it to do so.

I did that long ago, and it still changes to live spontaneously.
Have any of you guys tried the iOS beta 11.3 one of the features include: the view from the camera now has a 50% greater resolution and auto-focus.
