Fix: iPhone 7 Battery Draining Fast

I FIXED THE SAME PROBLEM ON BATTERY DRAIN ON MY iPHONE 7 PLUS! I had the same problem on my new iPhone 7 Plus 128gb phone running iOS 10.02 and here is how I fixed it!

First of all the way you know you have a problem (and also the way you know you have fixed the problem) is when you go to Settings>General>Battery and scroll all the way down and look at TIME SINCE LAST FALL CHARGE. If your usage time is the same as your standby time you know you have a problem and basically the iPhone is running continuously and not going into standby mode. THIS USUALLY IS BECAUSE AN APP ON YOUR PHONE IS MALFUNCTIONING AND YOUR PHONE IS RUNNING THE APP CONTINUOUSLY. You might get clues to this under the list of apps under BATTERY USAGE on same page but that wasn't helpful to me as it doesn't seem to show which app is running continuously.

Here is what I did to fix the problem and any one of these might fix it and I am not sure which one actually fixed it so here are things to try....

FIRST OF ALL MAKE A GOOD BACKUP BY CONNECTING YOUR iPHONE TO YOUR COMPUTER AND USING ITUNES.

1. If you are running Facebook on your phone then delete it and reinstall it as this app is one of the biggest culprits. Takes 5 minutes and might fix it.

2. Then do a soft reset....the way you do a soft reset on the iPhone 7 or 7 Plus is DIFFERENT THAN PREVIOUS iPHONES. Due to the new home button requiring power to work, Apple has changed the buttons used to force a restart. You now need to hold the wake andvolume down buttons at the same time. After a few seconds of holding in the buttons, the Apple logo will appear on your iPhone's display, indicating it has restarted, and you should be back in business. This takes only a minute or so..

3. I then "Reset all Settings" by going to Settings>General>Reset >Reset all Settings. AGAIN MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A GOOD UP TO DATE BACKUP DONE BEFORE YOU DO THIS. I didn't think this step did much and this doesn't erase content but you lose all your settings like wifi connections and passwords etc so i decided I didn't want to lose them all so then went to next step. This takes about 10 minutes.

4. I then connected my iPhone 7 Plus to my computer and restored my backup with iTunes. This takes an hour or two as I have a lot of apps and data.

5, I then went to Settings and scrolled down and turned off the "Allow Notifications" on each app that I could live without notifications. takes 10 minutes...

6. I then charged my computer fully and VOILA it was fixed and the way I know this is I went to Settings>General>Battery and scroll all the way down and look at TIME SINCE LAST FALL CHARGE and NOW THE STANDBY TIME IS MUCH HIGHER THAN THE USAGE TIME AND THE BATTERY IS WORKING FINE AND NOT DRAINING ANYMORE THAN NORMAL.

Sorry that i don't know exactly which step solved my problem but you can do this all in a couple of hours and it saved me from returning my iPhone! Maybe if others try these steps you could narrow it down and let people know which one worked. Reminder backup your iPhone to your computer before you do any of the major steps above. Hope this helps.

I posted my problem in so many places asking for help that I forgot everywhere I did it so after finally finding the issue and fixing it I wanted to post my experiences, now I can do just that here.

Finally found the Culprit this Wednesday after a month and 4 different phones. It was iCloud for windows installed in my laptop... Yes believe it or not.

I arrived Wednesday to my office but different than any other day I didn't turn on my laptop and immediately began working on a new project. When I checked my phone around 10am I noticed that for the first time in almost a month it was working normal at my office. I just remembered that the only thing different was not having my laptop on so to verify my new theory I turned it on and left it on besides my phone for about 30 minutes, when I got back to it, the battery standby and usage has increased 30 minutes each, so the problem started as soon as I turned my laptop on. After turning off again and verify that the issue stopped as soon as I turned I off I then moved to see what could have changed in my laptop right around the day the problem began.

It was an easy finding because I hadn't installed anything new on it for the past couple of months except iCloud for Windows PC looking to be able to easily transfer my pictures to my laptop. So I Uninstalled it and reboot the laptop and the problem disappeared for good. After 2 days of that I can confirm that at least in my case, that was it.

So if by any chance you have iCloud installed in your Computer, just get rid of that POS until Apple work on it. I notified Apple about it but who knows when it may get fixed if ever.

I am so disappointed in Apple lately: the phone has always thrived, in my eyes, by its simplicity. I had taken the time to know it A-Z (previously had an iP6s), and after a while it felt like an extension of myself. It was simple, efficient, friendly, almost a partner in crime. Since I've been with the 7, nothing but problems. Well, it started in actuality the Winter of 2016, when my 6s would die right around the 30%. A software issue people had rumored. Since then, my experience with Apple has been nothing but trouble. Add to these bugs, the removal of background play from Safari, just to name one thing, and you are left wondering, "where is the simplicity that hooked me to this device?" I really don't like Android despite their stunning looks and flashy specs, but maybe I should just forget the kinship I have with iOS and jump ship.

Thanks a lot

I had the same problem , i tried only 2 of these:

Removed facebook app and reinstall ( dont think this was helpful)

Restarted the phone by holding the wake and the volume down buttons at the same time ( i think this is the secret)

This fixed the problem and now i can see the huge difference between both standby time and usage time . My batter came back to normal again 👏-1F3FC;👏-1F3FC;👏-1F3FC;

Still got the same problem after so many months..

I went to the Applestore in Brussels and I did get a new iPhone 7 Plus 256GB, I thought that this was my last option..

Didn't fix anything, a week after the new iPhone it started again.

My only "temporary" fix is restarting the phone after it has been fully charged.

I did find that the problem always begins after the phone has been charged to 100%.

I don't know if this is a problem we cause ourselfs with an app that syncs in the background or that it is a iOS problem..

let's hope that apple see this, there are now 1600 people that are following this post.. It's not that much but still..

I wish I could give you a BIG HUG!!! This was SO HELPFUL to me! I followed all your steps except for #3 because I didn't want to lose all my wifi connections, etc.

I can see the battery going up from 1% to 21% in less than 5 minutes. I can't check the Battery in my settings yet until it's filly charged because both Battery and Standby have a dash. Other wise THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

Dude you're on the money 100%. Sorry for the real bad news everyone, the issue starts again every time the phone hits 100% charge. As a workaround I've been trying to charge my phone to 90 then taking it off as it doesn't start again - this works but you have to be conscious of it. Guys - the real bad news is it's not an app, a restore or deleting or replacing them won't help - unfortunately it's a known or unknown bug with iOS that apple simply hasn't fixed. Hopefully it's sorted in iOS 11.
