Fix: iPhone 7 Battery Draining Fast

I FIXED THE SAME PROBLEM ON BATTERY DRAIN ON MY iPHONE 7 PLUS! I had the same problem on my new iPhone 7 Plus 128gb phone running iOS 10.02 and here is how I fixed it!

First of all the way you know you have a problem (and also the way you know you have fixed the problem) is when you go to Settings>General>Battery and scroll all the way down and look at TIME SINCE LAST FALL CHARGE. If your usage time is the same as your standby time you know you have a problem and basically the iPhone is running continuously and not going into standby mode. THIS USUALLY IS BECAUSE AN APP ON YOUR PHONE IS MALFUNCTIONING AND YOUR PHONE IS RUNNING THE APP CONTINUOUSLY. You might get clues to this under the list of apps under BATTERY USAGE on same page but that wasn't helpful to me as it doesn't seem to show which app is running continuously.

Here is what I did to fix the problem and any one of these might fix it and I am not sure which one actually fixed it so here are things to try....

FIRST OF ALL MAKE A GOOD BACKUP BY CONNECTING YOUR iPHONE TO YOUR COMPUTER AND USING ITUNES.

1. If you are running Facebook on your phone then delete it and reinstall it as this app is one of the biggest culprits. Takes 5 minutes and might fix it.

2. Then do a soft reset....the way you do a soft reset on the iPhone 7 or 7 Plus is DIFFERENT THAN PREVIOUS iPHONES. Due to the new home button requiring power to work, Apple has changed the buttons used to force a restart. You now need to hold the wake andvolume down buttons at the same time. After a few seconds of holding in the buttons, the Apple logo will appear on your iPhone's display, indicating it has restarted, and you should be back in business. This takes only a minute or so..

3. I then "Reset all Settings" by going to Settings>General>Reset >Reset all Settings. AGAIN MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A GOOD UP TO DATE BACKUP DONE BEFORE YOU DO THIS. I didn't think this step did much and this doesn't erase content but you lose all your settings like wifi connections and passwords etc so i decided I didn't want to lose them all so then went to next step. This takes about 10 minutes.

4. I then connected my iPhone 7 Plus to my computer and restored my backup with iTunes. This takes an hour or two as I have a lot of apps and data.

5, I then went to Settings and scrolled down and turned off the "Allow Notifications" on each app that I could live without notifications. takes 10 minutes...

6. I then charged my computer fully and VOILA it was fixed and the way I know this is I went to Settings>General>Battery and scroll all the way down and look at TIME SINCE LAST FALL CHARGE and NOW THE STANDBY TIME IS MUCH HIGHER THAN THE USAGE TIME AND THE BATTERY IS WORKING FINE AND NOT DRAINING ANYMORE THAN NORMAL.

Sorry that i don't know exactly which step solved my problem but you can do this all in a couple of hours and it saved me from returning my iPhone! Maybe if others try these steps you could narrow it down and let people know which one worked. Reminder backup your iPhone to your computer before you do any of the major steps above. Hope this helps.

I posted my problem in so many places asking for help that I forgot everywhere I did it so after finally finding the issue and fixing it I wanted to post my experiences, now I can do just that here.

Finally found the Culprit this Wednesday after a month and 4 different phones. It was iCloud for windows installed in my laptop... Yes believe it or not.

I arrived Wednesday to my office but different than any other day I didn't turn on my laptop and immediately began working on a new project. When I checked my phone around 10am I noticed that for the first time in almost a month it was working normal at my office. I just remembered that the only thing different was not having my laptop on so to verify my new theory I turned it on and left it on besides my phone for about 30 minutes, when I got back to it, the battery standby and usage has increased 30 minutes each, so the problem started as soon as I turned my laptop on. After turning off again and verify that the issue stopped as soon as I turned I off I then moved to see what could have changed in my laptop right around the day the problem began.

It was an easy finding because I hadn't installed anything new on it for the past couple of months except iCloud for Windows PC looking to be able to easily transfer my pictures to my laptop. So I Uninstalled it and reboot the laptop and the problem disappeared for good. After 2 days of that I can confirm that at least in my case, that was it.

So if by any chance you have iCloud installed in your Computer, just get rid of that POS until Apple work on it. I notified Apple about it but who knows when it may get fixed if ever.

I struggled with this problem for many months. Tried EVERYTHING, nothing worked. Problem with always come back a day or week later.

I am here to report that i updated to ios 11.0 GM two days ago and everything is working as it should. 'Usage' and 'Standby' are always much different and never the same.

Keeping my fingers crossed that this bug was fixed in ios 11! Will report back if the problem pops up again.

I'm on 11.0.2 and I wanted today to downgrade to 10.3.3 but guess what? Surprise! They are not signing anymore. Apple, are you really doing this kind of ***** 😟

If ANYONE from there is reading this have in mind that I am using Iphone since the first one. Don't wanna tell anything about the other devices.

later edit: I'm not using facebook at all. I'm not using windows so therefor I don't have icloud for windows. I have 5 programs installed and that's all about it

News:

I tried to erase all contents and settings. A message pop up: icloud is uploading files ( ???!!!!!). Do you want to continue and lose the documents or du you want to finish first uploading the documents?

I pressed uploading the documents button. A progress bar appeared and did the job up to 100%. Pressed again the erase all contents and settings and voilla: SAME STORY.

Repeated the above steps few times and SAME STORY all all the time.

So something on icloud does't work right. That's why the battery is drained so fast. Will keep you posted.

I have got an Apple iPhone 5s and I have it for 5years without issues . Two

months ago I took it too a specialty phone shop in Limerick and got them to

install a new battery which was35 euros , I have a few issues since that

with the charging one time it’s 22 % charged and when plugged in it’s 50 to

60 % . I think this is a fantastic iPhone for constant use, could never

fault my iPhone . Cheers . Martin .

DRKCOPE~ Is your directions a FIX or temporary solution?

I bought a new 7 Plus phone to replace the 6s Plus. Both phones are running 11.1.2 and the 6s Plus battery seems to last longer than 7 Plus. I know that other users have the same or similar issue as I do. I am not using the 7 Plus to watch movies or play games. I know about the factors that contribute to reducing the battery.

I don't know yet if the battery performance is due to hardware or an iOS issue. I do know that the 6s Plus has longer battery life than 7 Plus. The funny thing about this, I have a lot more Apps set to background refresh on the 6s plus than 7 Plus and the battery last longer on the 6s Plus. Also, on the 6s Plus, Facebook is about 24% usage and I still get good battery life on the 6s Plus.

I know others have complained or have a similar issue regarding the battery ion the 7 Plus.

Okay . I got the answer about saving battery on my iPhone 7plus . The main function of iPhone which draines battery was GPS. So I manually went through setting of all app & set location uses @ when app is running ONLY & I did off some of the location services for systems .. And that's it !!! It gives me a full day of battery on every IOS update...🙂

This is truly a lot of steps. This has happened to me before but I found an easier solution.

1. Close out all of the apps that are running in the background. ( YouTube , Instagram etc..)

2. Go to your settings—battery and scroll all the way down to see what apps have been running.

3. After I checked that, I turned my phone off and unplugged the charger from my home for 5 mins.

4. After 5mins, turn your phone back on and go back to your settings—battery and put your phone on low power mode. Battery becomes yellow instead of green or red depending on how much charge you have on your phone.

5. Then I turn the brightness on my phone on. It makes your phone looks orange.

6. Then I just leave it alone. Immediately my phone started charging. And hour and 30mins later my phone was completely charged.

I personally found this way easier and safer than all of your steps. I’ve tried it before and lost almost a quarter of my music.

I've had problems with my battery for ages. I tried the solution to switch off and sign out of iCloud and that actually solved it for a day or two, so I then signed back into my iCloud and the battery when back to being bad again. So I signed out again hoping that would solve it again but it hasn't so now I have no idea what's going on. Tried resetting all settings. Apple have said the only way to solve this is to completely wipe my phone and start again but then I'd be losing everything which I'm not super keen on.

If anyone has any last-ditch attempts to help me, I'd be very grateful!

I agree. Please confirm if this is a permanent fix. The same thing happens to me once in a while. I'll go to sleep at 100% and wake up with my phone at 60-70%. Most of the time, this is because I forget to close out of apps before I go to sleep. I've never had this issue when I close out of my apps. But it would be nice to not have to worry about closing everything out before I go to bed.

Much appreciated.
