Fix: iPhone 7 Battery Draining Fast

I FIXED THE SAME PROBLEM ON BATTERY DRAIN ON MY iPHONE 7 PLUS! I had the same problem on my new iPhone 7 Plus 128gb phone running iOS 10.02 and here is how I fixed it!

First of all the way you know you have a problem (and also the way you know you have fixed the problem) is when you go to Settings>General>Battery and scroll all the way down and look at TIME SINCE LAST FALL CHARGE. If your usage time is the same as your standby time you know you have a problem and basically the iPhone is running continuously and not going into standby mode. THIS USUALLY IS BECAUSE AN APP ON YOUR PHONE IS MALFUNCTIONING AND YOUR PHONE IS RUNNING THE APP CONTINUOUSLY. You might get clues to this under the list of apps under BATTERY USAGE on same page but that wasn't helpful to me as it doesn't seem to show which app is running continuously.

Here is what I did to fix the problem and any one of these might fix it and I am not sure which one actually fixed it so here are things to try....

FIRST OF ALL MAKE A GOOD BACKUP BY CONNECTING YOUR iPHONE TO YOUR COMPUTER AND USING ITUNES.

1. If you are running Facebook on your phone then delete it and reinstall it as this app is one of the biggest culprits. Takes 5 minutes and might fix it.

2. Then do a soft reset....the way you do a soft reset on the iPhone 7 or 7 Plus is DIFFERENT THAN PREVIOUS iPHONES. Due to the new home button requiring power to work, Apple has changed the buttons used to force a restart. You now need to hold the wake andvolume down buttons at the same time. After a few seconds of holding in the buttons, the Apple logo will appear on your iPhone's display, indicating it has restarted, and you should be back in business. This takes only a minute or so..

3. I then "Reset all Settings" by going to Settings>General>Reset >Reset all Settings. AGAIN MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A GOOD UP TO DATE BACKUP DONE BEFORE YOU DO THIS. I didn't think this step did much and this doesn't erase content but you lose all your settings like wifi connections and passwords etc so i decided I didn't want to lose them all so then went to next step. This takes about 10 minutes.

4. I then connected my iPhone 7 Plus to my computer and restored my backup with iTunes. This takes an hour or two as I have a lot of apps and data.

5, I then went to Settings and scrolled down and turned off the "Allow Notifications" on each app that I could live without notifications. takes 10 minutes...

6. I then charged my computer fully and VOILA it was fixed and the way I know this is I went to Settings>General>Battery and scroll all the way down and look at TIME SINCE LAST FALL CHARGE and NOW THE STANDBY TIME IS MUCH HIGHER THAN THE USAGE TIME AND THE BATTERY IS WORKING FINE AND NOT DRAINING ANYMORE THAN NORMAL.

Sorry that i don't know exactly which step solved my problem but you can do this all in a couple of hours and it saved me from returning my iPhone! Maybe if others try these steps you could narrow it down and let people know which one worked. Reminder backup your iPhone to your computer before you do any of the major steps above. Hope this helps.

I posted my problem in so many places asking for help that I forgot everywhere I did it so after finally finding the issue and fixing it I wanted to post my experiences, now I can do just that here.

Finally found the Culprit this Wednesday after a month and 4 different phones. It was iCloud for windows installed in my laptop... Yes believe it or not.

I arrived Wednesday to my office but different than any other day I didn't turn on my laptop and immediately began working on a new project. When I checked my phone around 10am I noticed that for the first time in almost a month it was working normal at my office. I just remembered that the only thing different was not having my laptop on so to verify my new theory I turned it on and left it on besides my phone for about 30 minutes, when I got back to it, the battery standby and usage has increased 30 minutes each, so the problem started as soon as I turned my laptop on. After turning off again and verify that the issue stopped as soon as I turned I off I then moved to see what could have changed in my laptop right around the day the problem began.

It was an easy finding because I hadn't installed anything new on it for the past couple of months except iCloud for Windows PC looking to be able to easily transfer my pictures to my laptop. So I Uninstalled it and reboot the laptop and the problem disappeared for good. After 2 days of that I can confirm that at least in my case, that was it.

So if by any chance you have iCloud installed in your Computer, just get rid of that POS until Apple work on it. I notified Apple about it but who knows when it may get fixed if ever.

Guys,

After the 4th replacement did not work for me, i sold my 7 plus then bought 6s. Now I have both battery drain and ui lag on every animation and some time the whole ios freezes and touch is not responsive until I hard resboot.

Since when apple is so buggy ???

I was android user and for the first time wanted to try ios but I got bunch of problems. This is my last time, I sent my 6s for repair (fortunately i had 2 month guarantee left on my used 6s) if this time issues keep coming I am selling my 6s and buying some other android phone. Enough is enough.

Hi everyone,

I read all of the posts on this issue, and I was initially a bit overwhelmed...I mean come on, "DFU reset"...that sounds scary. Does DFU stand for "Don't F*** Up?" I just moved overseas and I was wondering if some how I picked up a virus or some sort of spyware. Really frustrating. My battery was draining 60% overnight and was always at 20% or less after a 9 hour day (after starting the day at 100%)

I read Payetteforward's suggestions (https://www.payetteforward.com/why-does-my-iphone-battery-die-so-fast-heres-the- real-fix/)and did some of those things (Location Review, Notification Review, Background App Refresh (was already off)). Not much though...most of those things were set. As I went over the recommendation to change the push to fetch on Mail, I went a bit crazy because I could not find Mail in my General Settings. Then I remembered I deleted Mail. I am a rookie in the Apple world, so I did not know if it would help to reinstall Mail so that I could check the settings...so I did.

Strange thing happened. Mail installed in less than .00001 second (like it was still there in the background) and most of my recent mail was instantly there. The settings were on fetch, but i changed them to manual. And voila, no more issues. No DFU, No reset, No hard reset, Nothing else really. Charged my battery to full at 1100 today, it is now 2200, and it is at 87%. I used it for navigation, some games, a couple of calls and texts, and some browsing. About 2 hours of usage.

I think it may have something to do with the cloud and the fact that the cloud is trying to update the mail because I have not told it not too. Who knows. But, the battery issue is gone for now. Thanks all for the troubleshooting. If the issue resurfaces, I will let you all know.

So if you deleted any of the native apps that connect to the cloud, this may work for you.

Oh, and I will never go to android. Apple rules!

I happened to have the exact same issue with mine iPhone 7 plus 128GB which i got 5 days ago. the very first thing that i did was , i went to app store downloaded few "battery life" apps to check my battery status and they showed my battery is 100% perfect. So i got confirmation that there is something wrong with the settings.

Then to resolve battery drainage issue i checked battery usage, it showed me the culprit app, for me it was Mail app. My email was literally draining 86% of my battery. As we cannot close the background app refresh of email through the checklist provided under background app refresh in settings. All what i did was. i went to setting --> scrolled down to mail --> reviewed all setting and closed the email syncing in iCloud email. trust me right after this my problem resolved . And now i can enjoy the battery life hours as dictated by the apple !!

so its simple. go to settings--> battery --> find the culprit app --> change its settings. As easy as it is .

Well, I don't have an icloud on my windows laptop. I brought this phone on May 8th, right before my birthday (May 9th). It was working fine on May 9th. I took photos, watched videos, wrote documents, surfed web, and played a little, I got around 60% of battery at the end of the day with heavy usage, when I took my phone to school at 88% in the morning. And today, I was using my headphones, (I wasn't using them yesterday) and to be honest I was using Spotify ++, from tweak box and tutu helper. It was working fine for like 15 minutes and then after a couple of minutes, my phone started to drain and it was getting hot too. I was trying to figure out the problem, I did the background app refresh thing, the location thing, and everything possible (not the dfu restore or the mail refresh yet). And then I noticed that the standby and usage were same. it was kinda unusual. My phone is a 7 plus 128 GB btw. And I started looking for answers and I saw all the replies of a DFU restore successful and another DFU restore unsuccessful and phone not working even after reboot and everything. My phone is literally 2 days old. And I got a 23% of battery at the end of the day today. I was really upset because I thought that this phone is a beast with a big *** battery. This also happened with my 6s too, it was shutting down all of a sudden at 30%, then I got a replacement and it was working fine. Now I have this and as you can see, things are not going well. I erased all the settings but I don't think nothing is working. I am either going to apple and give this phone a check up or whatsoever. And I did not jailbreak my phone (just in case you are wondering). I just don't know what to do. There was a video on youtube saying that 10.3.2 beta versions of apple were handling the battery well. I don't know if this is a software issue but whatever it is, apple should fix it. If anyone can help me, then it would be so great. Thank You..

I just wanted to warn everyone to also check for physical damage which can be a sign of a defective battery. I was having similar problems to those described here on an iPhone 7. It was shutting down after two hours while showing 70% to 80% battery left. When I put it on the charger, sometimes it would show as completely drained. But then when it came back on it would show 70% or more charge again in just a few minutes. i tried most of the solutions here and on other pages, but none of them helped. I called Apple and they ran a battery diagnostic but found no problems. I finally took it to the Apple store. When we removed the protective case I had on it, we saw that the iPhone was actually split open a little along one side. I could not see this with the case on, and never thought to take it off. The tech said the battery was defective and bulging, which was what had split the case open. They gave us a new phone since they said it was a safety issue and they can't just replace the battery. So I just wanted to add that as something to check for when you have battery problems on any iPhone, especially if you have it in a protective case. And this wasn't a totally enclosing case like an otterbox or lifepruf. It was just a clear TPU and plastic case, but it still hid the damage.

I am so disappointed in Apple lately: the phone has always thrived, in my eyes, by its simplicity. I had taken the time to know it A-Z (previously had an iP6s), and after a while it felt like an extension of myself. It was simple, efficient, friendly, almost a partner in crime. Since I've been with the 7, nothing but problems. Well, it started in actuality the Winter of 2016, when my 6s would die right around the 30%. A software issue people had rumored. Since then, my experience with Apple has been nothing but trouble. Add to these bugs, the removal of background play from Safari, just to name one thing, and you are left wondering, "where is the simplicity that hooked me to this device?" I really don't like Android despite their stunning looks and flashy specs, but maybe I should just forget the kinship I have with iOS and jump ship.

Thanks a lot

I had the same problem , i tried only 2 of these:

Removed facebook app and reinstall ( dont think this was helpful)

Restarted the phone by holding the wake and the volume down buttons at the same time ( i think this is the secret)

This fixed the problem and now i can see the huge difference between both standby time and usage time . My batter came back to normal again đź‘Ź-1F3FC;đź‘Ź-1F3FC;đź‘Ź-1F3FC;

Still got the same problem after so many months..

I went to the Applestore in Brussels and I did get a new iPhone 7 Plus 256GB, I thought that this was my last option..

Didn't fix anything, a week after the new iPhone it started again.

My only "temporary" fix is restarting the phone after it has been fully charged.

I did find that the problem always begins after the phone has been charged to 100%.

I don't know if this is a problem we cause ourselfs with an app that syncs in the background or that it is a iOS problem..

let's hope that apple see this, there are now 1600 people that are following this post.. It's not that much but still..

I wish I could give you a BIG HUG!!! This was SO HELPFUL to me! I followed all your steps except for #3 because I didn't want to lose all my wifi connections, etc.

I can see the battery going up from 1% to 21% in less than 5 minutes. I can't check the Battery in my settings yet until it's filly charged because both Battery and Standby have a dash. Other wise THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

Dude you're on the money 100%. Sorry for the real bad news everyone, the issue starts again every time the phone hits 100% charge. As a workaround I've been trying to charge my phone to 90 then taking it off as it doesn't start again - this works but you have to be conscious of it. Guys - the real bad news is it's not an app, a restore or deleting or replacing them won't help - unfortunately it's a known or unknown bug with iOS that apple simply hasn't fixed. Hopefully it's sorted in iOS 11.
