Fix: iPhone 7 Battery Draining Fast

I FIXED THE SAME PROBLEM ON BATTERY DRAIN ON MY iPHONE 7 PLUS! I had the same problem on my new iPhone 7 Plus 128gb phone running iOS 10.02 and here is how I fixed it!

First of all the way you know you have a problem (and also the way you know you have fixed the problem) is when you go to Settings>General>Battery and scroll all the way down and look at TIME SINCE LAST FALL CHARGE. If your usage time is the same as your standby time you know you have a problem and basically the iPhone is running continuously and not going into standby mode. THIS USUALLY IS BECAUSE AN APP ON YOUR PHONE IS MALFUNCTIONING AND YOUR PHONE IS RUNNING THE APP CONTINUOUSLY. You might get clues to this under the list of apps under BATTERY USAGE on same page but that wasn't helpful to me as it doesn't seem to show which app is running continuously.

Here is what I did to fix the problem and any one of these might fix it and I am not sure which one actually fixed it so here are things to try....

FIRST OF ALL MAKE A GOOD BACKUP BY CONNECTING YOUR iPHONE TO YOUR COMPUTER AND USING ITUNES.

1. If you are running Facebook on your phone then delete it and reinstall it as this app is one of the biggest culprits. Takes 5 minutes and might fix it.

2. Then do a soft reset....the way you do a soft reset on the iPhone 7 or 7 Plus is DIFFERENT THAN PREVIOUS iPHONES. Due to the new home button requiring power to work, Apple has changed the buttons used to force a restart. You now need to hold the wake andvolume down buttons at the same time. After a few seconds of holding in the buttons, the Apple logo will appear on your iPhone's display, indicating it has restarted, and you should be back in business. This takes only a minute or so..

3. I then "Reset all Settings" by going to Settings>General>Reset >Reset all Settings. AGAIN MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A GOOD UP TO DATE BACKUP DONE BEFORE YOU DO THIS. I didn't think this step did much and this doesn't erase content but you lose all your settings like wifi connections and passwords etc so i decided I didn't want to lose them all so then went to next step. This takes about 10 minutes.

4. I then connected my iPhone 7 Plus to my computer and restored my backup with iTunes. This takes an hour or two as I have a lot of apps and data.

5, I then went to Settings and scrolled down and turned off the "Allow Notifications" on each app that I could live without notifications. takes 10 minutes...

6. I then charged my computer fully and VOILA it was fixed and the way I know this is I went to Settings>General>Battery and scroll all the way down and look at TIME SINCE LAST FALL CHARGE and NOW THE STANDBY TIME IS MUCH HIGHER THAN THE USAGE TIME AND THE BATTERY IS WORKING FINE AND NOT DRAINING ANYMORE THAN NORMAL.

Sorry that i don't know exactly which step solved my problem but you can do this all in a couple of hours and it saved me from returning my iPhone! Maybe if others try these steps you could narrow it down and let people know which one worked. Reminder backup your iPhone to your computer before you do any of the major steps above. Hope this helps.

I posted my problem in so many places asking for help that I forgot everywhere I did it so after finally finding the issue and fixing it I wanted to post my experiences, now I can do just that here.

Finally found the Culprit this Wednesday after a month and 4 different phones. It was iCloud for windows installed in my laptop... Yes believe it or not.

I arrived Wednesday to my office but different than any other day I didn't turn on my laptop and immediately began working on a new project. When I checked my phone around 10am I noticed that for the first time in almost a month it was working normal at my office. I just remembered that the only thing different was not having my laptop on so to verify my new theory I turned it on and left it on besides my phone for about 30 minutes, when I got back to it, the battery standby and usage has increased 30 minutes each, so the problem started as soon as I turned my laptop on. After turning off again and verify that the issue stopped as soon as I turned I off I then moved to see what could have changed in my laptop right around the day the problem began.

It was an easy finding because I hadn't installed anything new on it for the past couple of months except iCloud for Windows PC looking to be able to easily transfer my pictures to my laptop. So I Uninstalled it and reboot the laptop and the problem disappeared for good. After 2 days of that I can confirm that at least in my case, that was it.

So if by any chance you have iCloud installed in your Computer, just get rid of that POS until Apple work on it. I notified Apple about it but who knows when it may get fixed if ever.

My sister's iPhone 7 Plus 128GB is having the same issue, battery is draining, only 6 weeks old. She has tried uninstalling Facebook, limiting the background app refresh, soft reset. Factory reset, nothing is fixing the issue. I don't think exchanging the device will help as it hasn't helped others with the same issue.

Just wanted to give an update. I posted a week ago about having success after doing a DFU restore, and I'm happy to report it's still running smooth almost 3 weeks after the restore. This seems to have fixed my issue. I had previously done a full restore, both setting up from backup and setting up as new, and still had the issue. But it seems doing a restore from DFU has resolved the issue. If you're having this issue after trying everything else, I would consider this option. After the restore I set up as new. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

I'm new to this thread but I wanted to share my experience with the same battery draining issue. My first iPhone 7 128gb at&t from release day was replaced 2 weeks ago by Apple because neither of us couldn't figure out the issue. Apple insisted the issue was my backup on my Macbook was corrupted so I set up my phone as new, deleted all backups on my Macbook, and created a new one. The battery worked great as it should the first 2 weeks and yesterday, my phone drained 50% while I was sleeping. AGAIN. I see people in this thread has uninstalled iCloud on their Windows but i never had it installed in the first place. My "usage" and "standby" time is the same just like everyone else. I purchased my wife an iPhone 7+ 128gb on the same day as my first phone and she does not have this issue. I cannot figure out the issue for the life of me. I've been with Apple since the first iPhone in 2007 and never had this issue.

I have found the watch will drain my 7+ to zero within 10 hrs. Usage time same as standby but I have not used the phone at all. I would charge to 100% pull off charger, and go to sleep. Wake up to 4%.

Unpaired my watch. Charged to 100. Went to sleep woke up this morning 100%.

Culprit Apple Watch. I refuse to turn off all notifications on the watch, that would defeat the purpose in having one. Apple will continue to help troubleshoot and I will post results as I get them.

I am very disappointed with Apple. I will go to the service center here in my country and ask them to Assist me in having a DFU restore. If this doesnt work, I will probably shift to android. This is the first time that this happened to me, I've been using apple since their iphone 3gs. We dont deserve a phone like this, because we paid the right amount.

I got my iPhone 7 plus in mid-December, and I've been having the same problem with it since January. My whole family got the iPhone 7 (regular) except for me (I got the plus). They've had no problems whatsoever. They LOVE their battery life. I'm on my 3rd replacement and have called/been in to the store at least 7 times in the past 2 months. The first time the guy was super sassy and rude to me (and really seemed to not believe me) because he did a diagnostic test and it came out that there was nothing wrong with my battery. But I finally got him to help me and he told me to update my apple watch. I did that and my battery was great for 3 weeks. Then it acted up again and Apple agreed to replace it. Great battery for another week, until it started acting up again. Then they concluded there was probably a bug in my software that was coming through my backup restorations, so they had me set it up as a new phone. That did the trick for another week, and then a few days ago I got another replacement. Today the battery started acting up again. I just charged my phone fully, unplugged it, and have been checking usage/standby. They were the same for around 10 minutes, and then I decided to delete facebook. Now they're not the same. I want to say this will be a permanent fix, but every "fix" I seem to try is temporary, so I'm not getting my hopes up too much. I just don't understand because I know countless people who have iPhone 7's and 7 pluses who have the facebook app and have no problems with their battery life. Why my phone?

Facebook is certainly an issue. But I also checked that. My iphone had an issue while there was facebook on my phone. However, I deleted facebook the problem disappears eventually but then starts randomly , mostly after a heavy usage phone gets stuck with battery drain and keeps working while your phone at sleep (i.e. standby same with usage) until u RESTART it. So the only solution besides removing facebool will be restarting your device or return it to the apple. Hopefully this problem is software related.

Had the same problem for the last 3 weeks.

That's what worked for me this morning (VERY simple):

Backed up my iPone 7 Plus with iTunes.

Then:

Settings>General>Reset (scroll all the way down)>Reset all settings (1st from top).

After reset was done, problem was gone.

(BTW, also dictation stopped working yesterday. The same reset solved that too)

Guys,

This is my 4th replacement iphone. ALL of them had same battery drain issue , it worked normal for about a week then starts showing standby and usage same all the time till I restart my phone.

I tried to turn on Low Power mode. So far so good. I will update if I see the same behavior again. I think @apple, should take this issue serious since it will loose lots of its customers due to this common issue.

Hey guys, I would just like you to know that, I've uninstalled the Icloud for windows then did the following steps you said. Then I've tried doing the DFU restore, still my battery is draining even if I'm not using it. I tried hard resetting and reset all setting but, its but not working. I've been using apple products since their iphone 3gs and this is my first time having an issue with my iphone. I want to express my disappointment with this, I guess the only solution is to change my phone and use android phones instead.

I did not. After I did the DFU restore I selected the option to 'Set up as new iPhone'. I did this just in case there was anything that might transfer over from the backup that would cause the battery issue to reappear. Since doing the full restore, I have installed all the same apps I had before and I've had no issues. Like I mentioned before, I've been going for about 2 months and all has been good.

All of the other 'solutions' I've seen in here are temporary or require you to disable features of the iPhone that shouldn't have to be disabled for it to work. This is definitely an issue with the software, but doing the DFU restore and setting it up as new has allowed me to use the iPhone to its full capabilities and not have any battery issues.
