My Apple Watch charger makes a ticking sound and doesn't charge?

The round magnetic disc at the end of my charging cable makes a "ticking" or clicking sound at what sounds like the beat of a clock. It started recently and has not been charging the watch. I tried to plug the cable into the USB port on the MacBook Pro, rather than the wall, but it still clicks and doesn't charge. Is my charger shot?

I suggest that you contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available) or make a Genius Bar reservation with a view to having your Apple Watch and Magnetic Charging Cable checked and, if recommended by Apple, serviced / replaced (whether under warranty, if eligible, or via chargeable repair service):
