Error message using USGA GHIN App

I post my golf score after each round. I do it from the parking lot at the golf course. I just got an iPhone 7. While on AT&T LTE, I receive this message: Unable to connect

Task cannot be completed

at this time. Please try

again later.

"RETRY"

This has always worked in the past with my other iPhones. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the GHIN app, but that doesn't solve the problem. I believe I have all the setting correct. When I get home and connect to wifi the GHIN app works fine.

Any thought?

Hello davidfromwest greenwich,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It's my understanding you've been unable successfully post score updates when on an LTE network. I post game and workout progress quite frequently. I know this can be a great feature with many apps. I am happy to help.
If you haven't already, make sure the cellular data is turned on for this app in Settings > Cellular. If the issue persists try restarting the iPhone using the steps below.

  1. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
  2. Drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
  3. After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Also, here's some additional information on cellular data settings.

Have a great day!

Hi Jeremy,

Just FYI, I was able to post golf score on my wife's iPhone 6s with the GHIN app, using LTE. All of the settings are the same as on my iPhone 7, yet I get the error message I originally post. So, like I said it is not a big deal, though it would be nice to post my golf score right after I complete it like I used to do. I have had just about all the iPhones and have not had a problem until now. I don't know what to think:)

Thanks again for your help.

Thank you for following up. The additional details are very helpful. What's the software version on your wife's iPhone? It's possible there's network settings are the cause of this issue. At this point, we recommend resetting the network settings. This takes all network settings to default, including Wi-Fi networks and passwords, VPN, and APN settings. To reset network settings go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

Interesting. So it sounds like the iPhone 7 plus has an issue with AT&T LTE.

However it seems a bit odd that it is only the USGA GHIN app that is having the problem and literally every other site loads and acts fine. But then again perhaps other apps are not acting completely fine but are not reporting errors such as the USGA GHIN app which by the way I deleted and reinstalled with no luck.

I will check with AT&T and see if they can provision it for LTE and report back results.

This problem isnt related to the carrier, it is related to the ghin apps development and how it accesses cellular network services for the iPhone 7. I have several iphone 5s and 6s as well as 2 iphone 7s.

the problem repeats itself on any iPhone 7. it is not present on any other device type I have tested. Note: also tested with an unlocked 7 for Verizon and at&t, same problem.

on any iPhone 7 if you associate to a wifi network the app will work.

I submitted a report to the GHIN app developer and this this the response. Looks like they will pursue a solution.

John,

Thank you for letting us know. We have reported the issue to GHIN. GHIN is currently working on a solution.

As soon as this is resolved, I will let you know.

Thank you and have a nice weekend,

I did the update iOS 10.0.3 and tried to post on the GHIN.com app and after the first retry it came up to the proper screen to post a golf score. Unfortunately every other time I access the GHIN app I get the unable to connect error message. I have 3 out of 5 bars for AT&T LTE. It is still at little frustrating. Of course it works on wifi.

Ok, I have shut off my iPhone 7 a couple of times and I'm afraid I will have to retract my "SOLVED" reply. It is still not working. It did work once after the update, but I'm back to the same "Unable to Connect" at this time message, again.

Thanks for the heads up about the iOS 10.0.3 update.

I too updated to IOS 10.0.3 with no luck posting to the GHIN app. Same error message. This leads me to believe it may be a GHIN app issue and how it communicates with the main GHIN server.

As the GHIN app developers are aware of the issue we may have to wait on them.

As a side note there is another thread regarding iPhone 7 connectivity issues

Thank you for the heads up on the IOS update.
