I tried to solve it by searching similar CoreTelephony errors. Couldn't solve it yet.

Same thing here, iMac with OS X 10.11.6. It started one or two days ago. Have not found any valuable solution online yet, tried rebooting in recovery mode and checking disk but it looks like everything is ok with disk and permissionsUser uploaded file.

I just encountered and fixed this issue on a family member's Mac. Inspection of /tmp directory showed only contents a subdirectory "/tmp/notifcations". It could not be removed and remained on rebooted system. After trying numerous suggestions including running disk utility and resetting permissions while in recovery mode, the following remedied.

Turn off System Integrity Protection and reboot to clear unwanted files in /tmp and restore needed file /tmp/ct.shutdown. Problem gone when rebooted. "/tmp/notifications" was removed. Error message gone. Reenabling System Integrity Protection did not bring back problem. Thinking El Capitan upgrade had failed to clean up after itself. Specific instructions as follows:

  1. Reboot your Mac into Recovery Mode by restarting your computer and holding down Command+R until the Apple logo appears on your screen.
  2. Click Utilities > Terminal.
  3. In the Terminal window, type in 'csrutil disable' and press Enter.
  4. Restart your Mac.
  5. If error message gone, success!
  6. Reboot your Mac into Recovery Mode by restarting your computer and holding down Command+R until the Apple logo appears on your screen.
  7. Click Utilities > Terminal.
  8. In the Terminal window, type in 'csrutil enable' and press Enter.
  9. Restart Mac.

Credit to Jhmmy for putting me on the correct path to resolve.

I have the same problem and am pretty desperate for I have to get a newsletter made with the Adobe CS4 out this week.

I tried the on-line help, but neither fix that I was given helped at all on my iMac. I'm still getting the same error message.

I'm in El Capitan 10.11.6. Would it help if I tried to upgrade to Sierra? Or would that be a very bad idea?

HI,

I contacted apple support and they advised the following which worked for me. I didn't need to go the sierra option, but if the reinstall OS X doesn't work, then sure try the last option.

Steps

Let’s restart your Mac into OS X Recovery by restarting and pressing Command-R upon restart and holding for one minute. From there, let’s click on Disk Utility > click your Macintosh HD > click First Aid at the top.

This will ensure there are no underlying issues with the hard drive itself.

From there, if there are any hard drive issues, that would be an indication of a hardware issue. However, if there aren’t, we’ll want to close out of Disk Utility while still in recovery mode, then choose Reinstall OS X. ( its the second option) This will reinstall the current version of OS X and only reinstall system files without erasing any user data, and can often times fix issues like this where it’s returning a trace file error. note: if you are not connected to ethernet, you will need to connect to wifi by clicking on the wifi icon in the top right of the recovery screen.

Another option we can use to get this resolved in the event reinstalling OS X doesn’t work is upgrading to Sierra and then attempting reinstalling after.
