iPhone 7 home button noise

The Taptic Engine is defective, or loose.Take it to an Apple store for repair or replacement. If you have apple care they will replace it. The Taptic engine is not repairable, but can be replaced. Great care must be taken in replacement in iPhone 7 because or the water tight seal.

I thought I was the only one with that problem! Whenever I pressed my home button it made this weird loud, almost hollowed noise. I tried resetting, and even changing my home button settings, but it still made the noise. Less than a month ago I went into the Apple Store and reported the problem, they said there were some loose screws and were signs of water damage. They offered to fix it for free and it stopped after that. But I noticed yesterday that all of a sudden it started to make the noise again. I am heading into the Apple Store to report it once more. Hopefully I can get a replacement so the sound doesn't keep coming back. I will give you an update as soon as I come back from the store today.

Update: I went into Apple and they said they didn’t know what was going on with my phone, but that it was a hardware issue. They told me to call over the phone for a replacement since they were all out of the iPhone 7 Plus Rose Gold in 32 gigs. I called and the service went smoothly and I will be getting a replacement in 3-5 days

I googled this question because i was having The same problem. I fixed it though so I don’t know if it helps though I know I’m pretty late but to fix it all I did was go to accessibility and down to home button and I pressed the click speed buttons a bunch of times to make the phone vibrate and that fixed it.

I don't know if you tried this or not, but I restarted my phone and I haven't heard that sound anymore. Home button is back silent again.

Do you have a lifeproof case? I had my lifeproof case on and it started doing this and when I took it off it stopped

I noticed today that this actually seems to be normal. My mod, dad and brother bought iphone 7's today and all of Them are making the sound. My friends phone which he got on the release is not so the question is if they changed something from the first batch.

Mine was actually do to casting with the Apple TV. Once I reconnected and then disconnected, it was good. It seems to happen to me if I cast and leave the house or turn off without stopping the cast.

Soft restart resolved this issue for me.

Turning the phone off and back on resolved the issue for me - thank god! It's horrible.

I figured out that you can minimize the effect by setting the Home button haptic feedback to the lowest level "1". Still, I figured that the problem may be in the haptic engine itself because while clicking the app icon on the screen for removal - sometimes, it generates the same weird "spring" "clicking" noise. It happened only 2 or 3 times. And I'm not 100% sure that it was the same noise. It's so annoying that I'm thinking about it every time I'm about to press the Home button...

You can make an appointment to have your Apple equipment evaluated at the genius Bar of an Apple-owned store. Your visit for an evaluation is FREE. Then you will know whether the noises and vibrations are considered normal or not. If not normal, you can arrange a repair if you like, but there is no obligation to have Apple make any repairs.

Had the exact problem earlier today. All of a sudden a harsh, metallic, as if something was loose inside the phone started sounding every time I pressed the home button. I powered off the phone and restarted it... so far it hasn't sound like that again!

You have described the problem perfectly :) thats what is happening with my iPhone, except i can reproduce it easily in 30 seconds by setting the Home haptic feedback to 3 and smashing Home. Note that setting it to 1 (lowest) almost fixes the problem. It still happens, but Its more quiet and more rare. Still freaks me out everytime it happens :( good luck with your iPhone
