iPhone 7 home button noise

All of the sudden, My home button is starting to make an odd, hollow tinny noise when I press it, almost like an echo inside the phone. Anyone else having this issue?

It's definitely not the intended noise apple added to make it seem more like a button.

You have described the problem perfectly :) thats what is happening with my iPhone, except i can reproduce it easily in 30 seconds by setting the Home haptic feedback to 3 and smashing Home. Note that setting it to 1 (lowest) almost fixes the problem. It still happens, but Its more quiet and more rare. Still freaks me out everytime it happens :( good luck with your iPhone

Hi. I was at an Apple service and for me the solution was to remove the tempered glass protection. It was nothing wrong with my phone or with the update to 10.3.2 or the home button. If you have a protective foil remove it and that sound will diseappear! When you look at it you cant see it but the foil is blocking that button to function properly and it makes that "click" noise. Now with the protective foil removed everything works perfect for me. No noise!

Well my iPhone is making that springy noise for all three settings. I just had the phone for approximately two weeks and it's having this issue. To be honest I'm an OCD person however I'm only 16 and just brought the phone which costed £700. And for that I expect no problems what so ever. I'm just clueless for what shall I do. Will they replace it??

(Iphone7 128gb jet black) Mine is at the same.. spring sound/feeling maybe once/twice a day it's not good enough from such an expensive phone!! Battery life has also deteriorated massively over the 11 months, its as bad now as my iPhone 4s was after 3 an half years...two/three times a day it needs to be charged and it's not even a year old!! APPLE should be replacing the batteries free of charge an sorting out this spring issue in the home button... I had an iPhone 4s before this and to be honest the only difference I ever noticed was naturally the battery (at the beginning not now) bigger screen and the camera!! Will I spend €850 on a new iPhone again?? Not a hope in **** if this is what I'm to expect..

I thought I was the only one with that problem! Whenever I pressed my home button it made this weird loud, almost hollowed noise. I tried resetting, and even changing my home button settings, but it still made the noise. Less than a month ago I went into the Apple Store and reported the problem, they said there were some loose screws and were signs of water damage. They offered to fix it for free and it stopped after that. But I noticed yesterday that all of a sudden it started to make the noise again. I am heading into the Apple Store to report it once more. Hopefully I can get a replacement so the sound doesn't keep coming back. I will give you an update as soon as I come back from the store today.

I had this same problem develop out of the blue with my iPhone 7. Also when my phone vibrates the noise rattles really obnoxiously with the sound emanating from the home button. I made an appointment at the Apple store, and they told me the whole front portion of the phone needed to be replaced and that it would be $150. I didn't do it, so if any one has any tips or ideas on a different solution, I would be grateful.

Had the same issue ever since I dropped my phone on the wooden floor, it fell directly on its screen. The distance was 140-160 cm, I believe. No other signs of damage whatsoever, apart from a small whiteish stain on the bottom of the screen near the home button which is only (and barely) visible on maximum brightness when the display is completely black. I thought Taptic Engine was affected at that time, but all other sorts of vibration seemed to work how they’re supposed to. I’d say that this IS a hardware issue after all, however I have to admit that just like for many others, for me this happens pretty randomly, it can occur once in 5 clicks, can not occur in like 40 clicks or can continuously repeat for 10-15 clicks in a row and so on. I really think this is some perfectionists’ thread since most would never even notice something like this. Let’s just call it “custom button feedback” :D

alex_h1,

I tried changing the haptic feedback settings but the noise persisted through every one of them. As I said before, the home button didn't always make this noise, it just started making it the other day. It sounds as if a metal component in the part of the taptic engine underneath the home button (possibly one of the actuators) is loose and causing some sound to leak whenever it vibrates. Is this a known issue that Apple is aware of, or am I a very rare case?

Hi zooyorker999,

Thanks for that. Based on your description of the issue, if you feel there may be a physical or build quality issue with your new iPhone 7, you may want to have it evaluated in person at an authorized service provider, and if necessary, have it serviced. You may find the following page helpful:
