iPhone 7 home button noise

All of the sudden, My home button is starting to make an odd, hollow tinny noise when I press it, almost like an echo inside the phone. Anyone else having this issue?

It's definitely not the intended noise apple added to make it seem more like a button.

The Taptic Engine is defective, or loose.Take it to an Apple store for repair or replacement. If you have apple care they will replace it. The Taptic engine is not repairable, but can be replaced. Great care must be taken in replacement in iPhone 7 because or the water tight seal.

alex_h1,

I tried changing the haptic feedback settings but the noise persisted through every one of them. As I said before, the home button didn't always make this noise, it just started making it the other day. It sounds as if a metal component in the part of the taptic engine underneath the home button (possibly one of the actuators) is loose and causing some sound to leak whenever it vibrates. Is this a known issue that Apple is aware of, or am I a very rare case?

I have the exact same thing with my IPhone 7 Plus. I noticed it yesterday after updating the IOS to 10.2. I think thats a coincidence because it looks like a hardware problem - loose part etc. However I've also noticed "clicking" sounds from the top speaker near facetime camera. Seems very strange, especially that it happens not too often. I can, however, reproduce the noise while clicking the home button rapidly for 10-20 seconds.

Have you managed to fix it? I've been to a Premium reseller Service point but they asked me to leave the phone for ~2 weeks which I cant do. Besides they said that it looks like a minor "discomfort" and would probably do nothing. I was expecting more....

I will try to record the problem and put it on YouTube.

Oh, and restarting the phone as somebody mentioned didnt help at all.

Had the same issue ever since I dropped my phone on the wooden floor, it fell directly on its screen. The distance was 140-160 cm, I believe. No other signs of damage whatsoever, apart from a small whiteish stain on the bottom of the screen near the home button which is only (and barely) visible on maximum brightness when the display is completely black. I thought Taptic Engine was affected at that time, but all other sorts of vibration seemed to work how they’re supposed to. I’d say that this IS a hardware issue after all, however I have to admit that just like for many others, for me this happens pretty randomly, it can occur once in 5 clicks, can not occur in like 40 clicks or can continuously repeat for 10-15 clicks in a row and so on. I really think this is some perfectionists’ thread since most would never even notice something like this. Let’s just call it “custom button feedback” :D

I had this same problem develop out of the blue with my iPhone 7. Also when my phone vibrates the noise rattles really obnoxiously with the sound emanating from the home button. I made an appointment at the Apple store, and they told me the whole front portion of the phone needed to be replaced and that it would be $150. I didn't do it, so if any one has any tips or ideas on a different solution, I would be grateful.

I have the same problem aswell. I sent my iPhone for repair about a week ago since one of the volume buttons got stuck. Yesterday I went to pick it up and they actually gave me a new one. I noticed very fast that it was making some odd sound when pressing the home button. It's like a "spring" sound / echo. I tried my friends iPhone 7 which also makes the same sound but not as loud as mine. I went back to the store but they didn't want to send it for repair again since this was not a "problem". It's actually pretty annoying. Hope there will be a fix for this soon.
