After updating to iOS 10.0.2, the calendar widget accessible on lock screen does not display the events always. Neither the time of the event or event name is displayed, but a blank widget with calendar color bar can be seen.
This is not always happening but very frequently. For ex, if you open the calendar app and then check this widget, the event appears, but after you lock the screen and check again, it would disappear.

It's less of a bug and more of yet another Apple inconvenience that makes iOS so archaic compared to other operating systems. Your events aren't showing in the Calendar Widget because you're attempting to view events from a shared or imported calendar. The Calendar Widget only displays events that were added from the device. If you added a shared calendar via PC, the Calendar Widget will ignore it. However, if you add the event to a shared calendar using your iOS device, then it will show on the Calendar Widget. This is messed up and shouldn't be this way. Hoping this is not intended so it will get fixed.

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
- Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
- Drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
- After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo
Use Widgets on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
- Swipe right over the Home screen, Lock screen, or Notification Center.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Edit.
- To add a Widget, tap
. To remove a Widget, tap
. To reorder your Widgets, touch and hold
next to the apps and drag them in the order you want.
- To finish, tap Done.
Tried multiple times restarting the phone and removing the widget and adding back, but no luck. The issue happens when the calendar has list mode.

If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
- Make sure that you're using the latest version of iTunes.
- If iTunes is already open, close it. Connect your device to your computer and open iTunes. If you don't have a computer, borrow one from a friend or go to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider for help.
- While your device is connected, force restart it with these steps:
- On an iPhone 6s and earlier, iPad, or iPod touch: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. Don't release the buttons when you see the Apple logo. Keep holding both buttons until you see the recovery mode screen.
- On an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Volume Down buttons at the same time. Don't release the buttons when you see the Apple logo. Keep holding both buttons until you see the recovery mode screen.
- When you see the option to Restore or Update, choose Update. iTunes will try to reinstall iOS without erasing your data. Wait while iTunes downloads the software for your device. If the download takes more than 15 minutes and your device exits recovery mode, let the download finish, then repeat these steps.
- After the Update or Restore completes, set up your device.
Tried reinstalling latest ios version 10.0.2 thrice by following the instructions, but it doesnt help. Verified the calendar widget on other iphone 6 phones running ios 10.0.2 and found the issue persistent across devices.
Let's just accept the fact that it is an ios bug and come up with a fix rather than doing restarting phones and reinstalling OS.
Apple, if you are seeing this, please fix the calendar widget in next ios release.
I Have this exact issue and has been happening since 10 to 10.0.2. Definitely a bug. force quitting the calendar app resolves it temporarily.
I have this problem on my iphone 6 too after updating to ios 10.0.2

I have the same problem here and I'm running iOS 10.2 now on my 6s plus. I've tried all the suggested solutions but still the problem exists. This needs to be solved.
That's because you're not using the calendar widget… You're using the Up Next widget which is an abbreviated calendar event widget..
P.S. I find it comical this issue is marked as "solved" when it couldn't be further from the truth. I have the same issue on iPad and it didn't exist until one of the previous updates.
