The "Apple world", whatever you think that means, can't do anything about it and is probably indifferent to your preferences. Apple, on the other hand, could do something if they chose so you should let them know how you feel. The feedback link has already been provided in this thread. The more people who let Apple know the greater the likelihood of change.
Yes, for those persons who do not mind another layer of messages they will love the chaos that this app provides as I never know if someone called me or has texted me or has sent an email as I have to search a dialogue box that informs me that this is actually a translator-in-action. Secondly: Plus, I do not approve of my name or the senders name being scrambled into gibberish. Third: If the voice mail is more than a short statement I am given a cut off message with an "...", then I still have to go to my actual voicemail message in order to obtain the entire message, which just wasted valuable time of having to read a garbled written transcription. And, fourthly: When I purchased my new iPhone 7 Plus two weeks ago at my local Verizon Store, the rep who has worked with me for years informed me that this Translation Beta after a one-month free trial will automatically begin to be charged to me through my iTunes account. Now it appears that there is no apparent way to 'bail out' of this nightmare. Beta, or no Beta this is not a way for Apple to be rolling out an new experiment on inspecting customers and long term loyal supporters.

I'm sorry, this is not true. There is no charge for transcriptions in Voicemail. Also, when you receive this, it is marked as a voicemail, not a text or email, so there should be no confusion as to what it is. As indicated earlier, there is a way to provide feedback about the transcription, considering your disapproval of some of the transcription.

The sales rep was wrong. There is no charge for the transcription service. Ignore it if you don't like it. You can still listen to the voicemail by tapping the play button.
Works fine on my phone, transcriptions depend heavily on the voice and enunciation of the person leaving the message but often they have been helpful. Since it is in beta you should give Apple some feedback here https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html and tell them you would like an option to turn it off on the final version.
That doesn't work. Must be part of the new upgrade. My wife's phone is updated and her voicemail is text and it's terrible. I have not updated and I still get voice
Your wife should be getting her voicemail as voice, and also as transcription. If not, then contact your carrier to have them reset her voicemail account. Voicemail is a carrier function.
Will try it. Thanks
You're welcome.

I personally have a terrible experience with voicemail transcription on iOS. The transcription itself is not very good and it crashes my phone app half the time which makes it difficult just to listen to my voicemails.
What did your carrier turn off? If they turned off your Visual Voicemail, then you will not see anything in the voicemail section of the phone app. If you are still seeing your voicemail list, then the carrier did not turn off VVM. They cannot turn off transcription. It would, however, be disabled if they disable VVM.
If transcription is not working well, AND the play button is crashing the phone app... you can still press and hold "1" from the phone app dialer to speed-dial and retrieve your voicemail the old fashioned way.
Does not work. I had my Siri language set to Japanese before I disabled it. This S!@T (stupid tech) should not be enabled by default. There are too many things tied to Siri. I don't want Siri...
BTW, already left my complaint on the FEEDback page for iPhone...

The only way to turn voicemail transcription off is to turn off your cellular data.
I found that if you turn off both cellular data and Wi-Fi at the time the voicemail is left, the entire visual voicemail function is temporarily disabled. However, once cellular data and/or Wi-Fi are on, visual voicemail returns, the voicemail itself is downloaded to the iPhone, and the transcription occurs at that time.
