alarm clock sounds do not thru headphones

I have a new iPhone 7 running iOS 10.0.2 and I cannot get sounds from the alarm clock to play thru plugged in headphones or bluetooth connected headphones. I know with iOS 9 there was an issue getting sounds thru bluetooth headphones but direct connected worked. Has anyone else come across this same issue and you have were you able to resolve it.

Thank you.

Hi Herb,

Thanks for the additional information. Since the issue persists, let's go ahead and reinstall iOS on your iPhone. This shouldn't affect your data, but it's a good idea to back up anyways:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

After backing up, follow these steps to reinstall iOS 10.0.2:
  1. Connect your device to a computer and open iTunes. If you don't have a computer, you can borrow one, or go to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider for help.
  2. While your device is connected, force it to restart.
    • On an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Volume Down buttons at the same time.
    • On an iPhone 6s and earlier, iPad, or iPod touch: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time.
  3. Don't release when you see the Apple logo. Keep holding until you see the recovery mode screen.

  4. When you get the option to restore or update, choose Update. iTunes will try to reinstall iOS without erasing your data.

Take care.

Howdy HerbP,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that you're not hearing the alarm through your headphones. If you're hearing other sounds from your headphones except for your alarm, then I first recommend that you force the Clock app to close, and then restart your iPhone. Please let us know if the issue persists.

Force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Take care.

Hi Alex_h1,

Ok that was a good suggestion. I now have sound when i use a hardwired connection to my headphones. But when I try to do it with the headphones using bluetooth the only sound comes from the phone. I tried listening to regular music and it comes over the bluetooth but when I do an alarm test it is just the phone. Any additional suggestions?
