not getting reminder notifications with ios10

I'm not getting reminder notifications with ios10, which is very frustrating! I've already missed some important work things because I don't get prompted. I looked under "Notifications" in settings, but Reminders is not an option.

When I'm on my macbook, I get them, so why aren't they showing up on my phone? This is a feature I use several times a day and not having it is VERY frustrating. I'm really hating ios10 so far.. don't even get me started on my battery life since the update. 😟

I held the lock & home button down until the apple logo appeared over the black screen. I was about 10 seconds. This fixed the problem. I've had to do again today, and did the same thing a couple of months ago. I've missed several important meeting before I realized what was going on.

Well...I've upgraded to iOS 10.3.2, and now I'm back to not receiving notifications/alerts.

The alert I needed to see this morning popped up on my Mac Pro, but not on my iPhone, and Notification Center is empty.

THIS IS MORE THAN MADDENING ALREADY!!!

None of the fixes outlined previously in this thread has worked. Not one. I've tried them all.

So at this point, are there any other calendar apps that DO work to show notifications/alerts? I'd prefer to stay with the Apple app, and I realize I can't make another one default, which will introduce a whole new load of frustration, but I NEED TO SEE ALERTS AND HEAR ALARMS!!!

I wanna thank you for posting this. Been waiting to see if 10.3.2 fixed things so I can buy my iPhone again. Seems like Apple isn't interested in the details anymore. Just profit.

I also tried everything before selling it.

Even a 2 hour chat session with Apple support mechanics. No outcome. Just "we are now aware of the problem and are working on a fix."

That was back in 10.2

Sold iPhone, got a high end android and I dare to say that there are many things that our beloved Apple could learn from them...

Anyway thanks for your feedback.

Maybe you should wait until Google assistant comes to iOS like they announced yesterday.

Maybe you can use Google calendar with the assistant and set reminders and events vocally.

Do post here again if you have any news.

Well, back when, I figured maybe since I set up these calendar alerts years/versions ago that deleting and recreating them in (at the time) 10.3 might fix the issue. And it seemed like it did, for a while. But now, even those are not throwing off alerts - and again, ONLY ON MY IPHONE. They pop up fine on my iPad Mini 2 and both my Mac Pro and MacBook Pro.

The last idea I had was to disable Handoff on the iDevices, figuring maybe one device was getting confused if the alert popped up on the other one. That doesn't seem to work either. Just this morning, I should've heard/seen a calendar alert 9am this morning to remind me to pay a certain bill (repeats monthly, recreated a couple months back). Nothing on my iPhone, no sound, no lock screen prompt, nothing in Notification Center. Not home, so I can't check my other devices yet...but I'll bet they all show the alert just fine.

MADDENING.

******Please notify Apple via support.

The more users that report the issue the more chances they will wake up.

I tried another solution. I turned off notifications for calendar and reminders and purchased an app called Fantastical which takes over the native calendar and reminders app. It has notifications of its own and reminders set via Siri are enlisted within the app.

I have tested it 2 days now and noticed that when I am using the phone (browsing, messaging etc) the reminders again don't work.

When the phone is resting, the reminders worked.

I set about 30 reminders in 2 days.

2-3 didn't notify me and I was using the device at the time, although to be honest I think that was just a big coincidence due to the fact that I use the phone A LOT.

My personal conclusion is that the problem still stands and that my favorite Apple is starting to NOT be my favorite at all anymore. ANDROID seems to care more for details nowadays. Not to mention Apple should be lucky to have apps like YouTube and Google Maps and Chrome where as Apple doesn't even share iMessage.

Is this the start of the end of the Apple era? I wonder...

I got here via Google search. I have the same problem. iPhone 7. IOS 10.3.2. Not running Outlook.

About half the time I don't get a notification on my phone of a daily activity (it's the only reminder I have set for every day). This has been going on for quite a while. Months? Maybe since IOS 10?

Rebooting the phone usually causes the reminder to pop up after restart. But after a few days I stop getting them again.

I guess writing functional software is just too hard if you're spending all your time worrying about what happens to the world if the USA withdraws from the Paris climate agreement.

Also having this issue. I had it last year for a while as well, and it seemed to fix itself. But I've noticed over the last few weeks that I'm missing reminders most of the time on my iPhone (some do show up, no rhyme or reason, but most don't). They always seem to show up on my Mac that's signed into the same account. I'm running 10.3.2 on an iPhone 7+. "Maddening" is the best word to describe it.

I've switched from iOS to Android on a number of occasions and am now with iOS again, have been since the beginning of 2017.

However, I've been using Google Calendar as it was "easy" to simply link everything to my previous Android Google Set Up and seemed to work for a while..but, I started to notice that my Google Calendar reminders and event alerts stopped working.

I did find a "fix" but it only worked for about 10 days, so my initial excitement over this was very short lived, because, lo and behold, once again, the alerts/reminders have stopped appearing and I can't repeat the initial "fix!" 😠 😉

I'd be tempted to revert to Android, although the new type USB C connectors mean that the device(s) are not recognized by my Car Stereo for syncing audio.

I could put up with the clunky iTunes-Android solutions, but I prefer to have control of my playlists from the Head Unit and the sound quality through an Aux Input is decidedly lower in quality than through USB/Lightning connections.

As for trying a new Calendar App and starting from scratch, I worry that I'd fork out £9.99, the price for one I've seen, only to have the problem recur in a few weeks 😉

If anyone has found a permanent solution to the Google Calendar notifications/reminders issue, I'd be very grateful to hear it..thanks!

Hello spandexonthebrain,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities. I know having an issue with Reminders is not what you expect. If I understand correctly, you are unable to get notifications for the Reminders app. Since you have checked the settings for the Reminders app in Notifications settings, I would make sure to make these reminders either a scheduled reminder or location based reminder and then restart your device as the shut down and start up process is important to keep the iOS software running properly:

Scheduled reminders - iPhone User Guide
Location reminders - iPhone User Guide
Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Cheers!

I would like to add to this. There have been several posts about Reminders not working with IOS 10, and while many of the questions show as "solved", it's clear that the issues have not been solved. Since updating my iphone 6 to IOS 10, and then to 10.0.2, reminders will not show up on my lockscreen. I too have now missed several important reminders. The solved answers direct users to toggle the options for interacting with the lockscreen. Here is one of the answers that has been posted:

In iOS 10, you can interact with notifications on the Lock screen to catch up on news, respond to messages, and more without unlocking your device.

Here are some ways you can view and interact with notifications from the Lock screen:

To view your lock screen, press the Home button or Sleep/Wake button. If you have an iPhone 6s or later, lift your device to see the Lock screen.

To respond to a notification, swipe left over it, then tap respond. If you have an iPhone 6s or later, use can use 3D Touch. Just press deeply on the notification, then respond.

To open the app to respond, swipe right over the notification.

To be clear, this does not fix the issue. Previously I was able to set up Notifications for reminders in the "notifications" portion of Settings. Now it doesn't even show up there (in other words, the reminders app is not listed as an app in Notifications). Reminders now do not alert me AT ALL. There is no alarm, no notice, no pop up screen on the lockscreen, no notification in the form of a banner while i'm using the phone. Nothing. I have to literally go to the Reminders app either on the lockscreen, or open the app, to see that i've missed my appointments. The issue is both with scheduled reminders (time/day) and location reminders.
