PDFs don't work on iPad Pro nor iPhone 6s

I have both an iPad Pro (9.8") and an iPhone 6s. Both are running iOS 10.0.2. PDFs don't work. I can see them in Safari, but there is no option to save them to iBooks or to my GoodNotes app.

If I save PDFs from Safari to iCloud Drive (either via iPad, iPhone, or my Mac), they seem to save fine, but I can't open them on the iPad or iPhone. When I click to open the PDF, all I get is a document icon. They open fine on the Mac.

In Mail (on the iPad and iPhone), all I get is an image of the first page.

The new option in iOS 10 to print-to-PDF is also not available.

This seems to be a long standing problem that people have had in the past, but, unlike every other problem I've ever encountered with an Apple product, nobody seems to have a solution other than to install a third-party PDF app (which didn't work either). Someone please help! I desperately need to be able to open PDFs on my iPad for work.

Thanks for checking. I'm beginning to wonder if some models are having problems while others aren't. There is a similar thread on this page and the person can't download into Acrobat reader. I'll get the link.

In the meantime please send Apple feedback at the link below. Thank you.

PDF not downloading from chrome iPad Pro

Oct 9, 2016 6:49 PM in response to bobseufert

Hi Bob. I'm devoted to Chrome, so I don't keep up with Safari. But I gave it a try, downloaded a simple pdf, and saw the momentary popup. Fortunately, just tapping on the document restores the popup at the top of the page. The More... contains the same options I see in Chrome, and they seem to work the same way, no surprises. So that's normal. The puzzle is why it's not normal for everyone. I'm using iPad Air with iOS 10.0.2.

The million dollar question and why I think it's device specific. I've tried every possibility I could using just one iPad and it always works. Download to Safari over to books, upload to iCloud Drive, download to Notes, up to Dropbox, over to OneDrive, a pit stop in Evernote and I always get the window and download. Knowing tt2 he begin where I ended, added in a iPhone, and a computer, and multiplied by a hundred variations and it's worked for him each time. 🙂

I'm on iPad 4 running IOS 10.0.2

Update: I erased my iPad and set it up as new. I'm slowly installing my apps. So far, PDFs are working. I'll provide an update in a few days as I get all my apps back to where they were. Hopefully it keeps working, but, if not, hopefully I'll be able to pinpoint the problem to a specific app or changed setting.

I'll follow suit with my iPhone in a few days.

Thank you to all for trying to help me out!
