Hello Woodee,

Thanks for asking about how to delete images from your message conversation without removing the text here in the Apple Support Communities. I understand how important it is to save your internal drive space with all the information that is checked daily. Your tagline states you have iOS 7.0.4, but the option changed to do this with iOS 10. I am happy to provide information to do this using iOS 10.

The first thing we want to ensure is that all your data is safe. You can make a backup in iCloud or iTunes using this article : How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch .

Once your data is safe, you can follow these steps to accomplish removing images only from your SMS or Apple Messages on your device:

1. Long press the image.

2. From the pop up menu select More. The image should have a check mark in a bubble, left side, so you don’t have to select anything additional.

3. Click the trash can in the lower left of the app. It will ask you once more if you want to delete that image message.

4. Click Delete Message.

Thanks again for asking about this here in the Apple Support Communities. Have a great rest of your day.
